Hi Guys,

Just popped over from the other forum, looking for Louise, but got sidetracked by this thread.

We had someone join a while back just to tell us how he'd defeated his Knotweed. No Spam, he didn't have any links to a contractor, in fact just the opposite.

He'd seen the council turn up & half heartedly spray it, missing most of it so he went out & bought all the protective gear & some Roundup concentrate. He sprayed the whole lot till he was sure he'd got it all, then, having some mix left over, selected 3 or 4 stems, cut them & poured what was left into the hollow stems.

Claimed it had got the lot, all for an outlay of about £50.

We advised him to keep his eye on it for the next 2 seasons, and not to move any of it, as I believe its classed as hazardous waste now.

He's not reported any new growth yet, and that was back in the spring.

Stuff's a nightmare. The Victorians imported a sterile variety thank goodness, hence the only spreading by roots. But if it ever became fertile, we'd be stuffed.

re the JK problem, one of the biggest plant thugs I had to deal with was actually a rhus typhinus.
It had travelled from a nearby garden under a wall then the pavement and across the road under another pavement and popped up in the garden where I was working.
I never really got rid of it just kept down by mowing and chopping out.
The distance from its original garden must have been about 35' at least. :o

No problem ziggi. I count Louise as one of my friends. I have been to her place and been served tea, met the cat and seen the garden. made really welcome in fact. 8-)
