Raining all day today so I have just been sat behind my desk at Blackleach reading and writing.I do most of my writing at Blackleach and today I started writing my notes on seasonal jobs for the National veg magazine. Went in the greenhouse this evening potting rooting cuttings. Potted 45 fuchsias into small yoghurt pots then about 15 geraniums and 12 coleus into 3 inch pots.

A decent day after all yesterdays rain. Went on the allotment this morning and dead headed, side shooted and tied up the dahlias again. Cut down some chrysanths that had finished. Also dead headed the roses. I have another show on Saturday , at Tottington. I removed the collars from the leeks to see which ones will be O.K.for the show .After shopping this afternoon I mowed the lawns then removed the bags from some of the chrysanths to see if any of them will be ready for Saturday. Been to school this evening and did some more weeding on the veg beds.

It was showery this morning. Between showers I fed my hanging baskets, tubs , larger pot plants and some of the dahlias and chrysanths with maxicrop tomato. Removed the bags from the rest of the chrysanths to see if any will be ready for the show on Saturday. If they wouldn't be ready I put the bags back on. When I go to a show with a lot of entries including chrysanths and dahlias which take up a lot of room in the car I have a large box to put on top of the car to put the boxes of veg in. This box dismantles and goes in the disused coal shed when not in use . While it was raining this morning I got it out and put it together under the car port ready for use.I didn't need it at Whitefield last Saturday because I could make two journeys, Friday night and Saturday morning but this week there is no staging on Friday night. We had to go to a funeral at 12.00 then a meal after it and we didn't get home till 3.30 but I went to the allotment and got the beans and some other veg for the show. Sorted the beans out this evening and put the likely ones in a wet towel . This makes them more supple which means that if they are a bit bent they can be straightened so I will do this tomorrow and sort them into sets for showing.

We went shopping this afternoon till about 3.30 but apart from that I have been cutting flowers for Tottington show from the allotment this morning and from my garden this afternoon. There is a class at the show for a vase of wild flowers and I forgot to mention yesterday that on the health walk at Blackleach I was cutting wild flowers as I walked along. This evening I have loaded up the car ready for an early start in the morning.

I had quite a good day at Tottington show. I put in 69 exhibits and got 19 first, 26 seconds and 12 thirds. Won 4 trophies, runner up for most first prizes , best exhibit in roses, best exhibit in pot plants and most points in dahlias (for the second week running). Ian , from this forum, was judging the dahlias. He usually shows here but he couldn't today because he was judging at Harrogate as well.Another thing I want to tell you is that today I staged my fifteen thousandth exhibit at shows.

Took all my spare veg from Tottington show to church this morning and put them on a table for anyone who wanted them, runner beans, French beans leeks, tomatoes and courgettes. This afternoon I went round Blackleach to do the bird count and recording wild flowers. Did some tying up in the garden after. The dahlias needed tying up again and the gladioli in the back garden. Also took some geranium cuttings in the greenhouse. Many of the pictures I took at the show yesterday were similar to what you saw last week but I'll show you a few different ones.
