I showed you a picture of my empty propagating greenhouse on Dec 13th. All my plants have been in the other greenhouse ever since. Today I moved many of them back. I put the chrysanth stools on the warming benches but didn't switch them on. The begonias and gloxinias have gone under the staging . All the smaller plants , up to 4 inch pots are in boxes on the shelves and all the streptocarpus are on the staging. May transfer some more tomorrow. I had some leeks grown from pips that someone gave me and I potted 15 of them into small yoghurt pots. I then potted a few rooted penstemon and angel pelargonium cuttings into 3 inch pots. I also planted 36 shallots into three and a half inch pots.

We are going to our daughter, Heather's , in Wales tomorrow till Thursday. Hopefully, I will be able to keep in touch with the forum on my grandson's computer. As you know,I have a friend called Alan across the rood who looks after my greenhouses when we are away. The plants in the greenhouse only get watered about once a week at this time of year. I watered them all this morning so he won't have to do any. I have just asked him to keep his eye on the leeks that I potted yesterday in case these need watering but nothing else will . He will open and shut the greenhouse doors when needed but I've told him they can stay shut if the weather is bad. I just did some tidying up this morning, emptying pots and trays that were finished with and I have washed some more pots this afternoon.

Happy New year to you all

A dry day for a change so I have had a full day on the allotment just digging and weeding the allotment beds. I finished the bed I was doing last time and almost finished another one. I took 4 bags of leaves that I had collected from Blackleach and I brought home some more sprouts. They are getting rather small now,

Weeding on the allotment again this afternoon. I will be ordering some manure ,probably this week, so I want to get all the beds weeded then I can barrow the manure straight onto them. All the veg beds are done now that are being manured and there is just the dahlia bed to do but there aren't many weeds on here. The veg bed that I have finished today still had some swedes on so I brought them home.

Back to Blackleach today after the holidays. I have been making out my birds and wild flower charts for this year and put them on the notice boards. Parkers catalogue came so I have made the order out for my gladioli.

A full day today doing gardening jobs. This morning I forked over and weeded the border round the front lawn but there weren't many weeds. Then I did the front rose bed with the claw, just to loosen the soil and get rid of the weeds, but again there weren't many weeds. I also sowed my exhibition onions,30 in a half tray , and put them on a propagator. Went to Martyn's this afternoon. He wanted two rose trees moving . He had put two canes in where he wanted them planting. The back edge of his lawn was untidy so when I had done the roses I removed some turf making a straight edge along the back. I then finished weeding the border round the lawn. Now that this is done, I won't need to go for a while.

As you know I don't have much time on Thursdays because I don't get home from Blackleach till about 3.30.Today I had to go somewhere on the way home so I have had no time at all. I think I have told you before that I save my own runner bean and climbing French bean seeds. The pods have ben on top of a cupboard in the kitchen drying off and this evening I removed the beans from them.

This afternoon I made an open fronted nest box for robins using an unwanted form from school. If you remember, I used two of these forms about a year ago for an edging on the allotment. I had removed the legs from this form a few weeks ago and pushed it through the railings onto the allotments and I brought it home the last time I went. It took me a long time to cut the form up to make the box and it was hard work. If only I had an electric saw I could have cut it up in a few minutes. I am going to fix the box on the side of the shed but I will paint it first.

This afternoon I gave my new robin nest box two coats of paint. Some of the wood of my great tit nest box is rotting so I ordered a new one from the R.S.P.B. I also took the first 96 chrysanth cuttings. The first 96 chrysanth cuttings
