I love the little painted pots in front of your shed window KC! Are those the hanging green pots on the gate which you were thinking of putting strawberries in, they're great but I think as someone said they look as though they'd dry out quickly, might be better for herbs? It looks a fairly sheltered yard so maybe you could put some trellis up on one of the bare walls & grow something like an edible passionflower up it then you'd have pretty flowers & fruits in one.

Hi Sue thanks, I love those wee pots, so pretty, that's what I grow my herbs in. Yes those hanging green pots on the gate is what I was initially thinking for the strawberries but I'm not sure what to do now after the feedback, I usually water everything 2-3 times daily in season so not sure the drying out would be a problem but a serious one definitely worth considering. It's all very sheltered out there The trellis would be a great idea, but I need to put wall boxes up on the bare walls for my strawberries can't wait to get them bought and up It'll be a wee mini jungle out there soon and I can't wait. As for the hanging green pots in the pic, I've 4 more to go up over the shed door

You could have some narrow but deep tubs or wooden planter at the base of a bare wall and grow climbers up some trellis KC . Annuals like nasturtium , canary creeper , Ipomoea, chilian glory vine would all look nice and sweetpeas would give a glorious scent .There are perennial climbers also like clematis Montana, clematis tangutia , passion flower, Akebia , perennial sweetpea or a honey suckle. They could scramble over the top of the shed to add some colour .

I'm thinking of passionflower for next year. I want to see how and where everything grows this year that I have, I do have a lot going on out there and am trying to keep the back for edibles mainly and the bulk of the flowers for the front when we eventually get it done. But I am thinking of something to climb over the sheds at some point in the not too distant future, I think it would be stunning like that, just to decide what to plant, how long would it take for something pretty to cover the sheds... years no doubt lol I must admit I do prefer perennials where possible. I could even do the passion flower over the shed When everything starts producing out the back will be less bare and my mini jungle again. My son rolls his eyes regularly at me!

Well I sold some craft stuff and have now got my wall planters ordered so excited, until I got home last night and my OH was out in the back yard scheming a new coal/slack bunker which means I don't have the use of one wall like I was expecting as he's looking to fill that wall above the bunkers with sticks to light the stove ;( I didn't have the heart to tell him but I'm sure something else will come along. The thing is I ordered 30, and again I didn't have the hear to tell him I'd ordered any let alone 30 or that I needed/wanted 'his wall' Oh dear KC, perhaps you could hang a couple of planters on his coal bunker

... and after saying I've run out of ground space my friend has just rang me to say she's nabbed me 2 patriot blueberries My large blueberry tub sits near a wall for most of the year, but gets moved to the front porch area when the fruits start turning, or the local magpies are cheeky enough to eat them before they are ripe enough to pick. Even managed to rearrange the netting to get at them!
