Lovely pics. Cherry , lovely sunshine too! I was reading at the weekend that poppies (I think just some of the oriental types) are being badly affected by a new kind of downy mildew this & last year & they're in short supply due to growers losing entire stocks! The lady who has the national collection has lost hundreds, when you pull the foliage it just comes away as the plant has died.

I took the pics today, but it is usually too sunny for the plants to show up well.
That poppy gets pulled up or it would take over the garden. There is a clump which looks good to start with, but they fall over because I haven't supported them.

I found the article grindle, it was in the Telegraph on Saturday & some oriental poppies such as one called 'Karine' appear to be extinct because of the mildew problem. A lady called Sandy Worth who holds the Plant Heritage collection of them at Water Meadow Nursery in Hampshire used to have 280 species & cultivars but now has only 30-40 varieties & is doing a survey to see which varieties have been lost & which are survivors & would like people to contact her on plantaholic.co.uk. I bet your poppies do well because it's fairly dry where you are Cherry, I've never had much success with orientals.

I think so SueA. Reading what grindle wrote and you found out has made me have another look at the poppies. I got rid of a lot when I moved into here, and I notice they have spread because I was not gardening last year in this area. Next year's poppies are already in growth, but have no flower stems yet. They have to go.

Alstromeria 'Princess Leyla', this is short stemmed so doesn't need staking.
My first (rather wind battered) 'Garden Friends' flower, lots more to come
