Seed
Sow seed as soon as it is ripe in pots of John Innes seed compost and place in a cold frame in shade.
Trillium seed has double dormancy. Sown immediately after harvest, the seed will germinate the following spring, after a period of chilling, to produce a root. Another cycle of warmth and chilling is then necessary for a shoot to emerge the second year. After a further two or three years the characteristic three leaves form.
Flowering may occur a year or two later. With very few exceptions trillium seed will not tolerate dry storage and old seed is usually dead.
Just found this on the RHS website Cherry

Looking good SueA. I love the yellow rose. This is almost overtaken by grindle's exciting research. Thanks Grindle. In this case I will send you and Lou78W a seed pod when I think it is a good time. It should be soon. I will put you on that list Rosie because if anyone can grow it, you should be able to with the climate being right for them.

Some plants seeds can be sown fresh (even green as mentioned) but I think Trilliums need to be fully ripe but still sown fresh. They should germinate the following year so be patient.

Beautiful roses SueA. I've got that iris, but I didn't know it was called Eye of the Tiger, but I can see why

Meant to say that the next time we are up that way we will be going into the nursery at Dyke. If you want anything like another Trillium, let me know we meant to go on our anniversary day out but didn't get there.

I always want one Rosie, but I will probably go myself when I visit you, round about the time of the wedding, which is in the middle of July. The flowers for the wedding are being done by Loch Duich Nursery and Florist. That will be worth seeing as well.

Geoff was saying he quite enjoyed going and looking at the venue on Skye If our anniversary hadn't turned out such a horrible day we would have gone to the nursery. Everything that could go wrong...did. Back to the normal chaos now

Fractal I really know grindle will appreciate your confirmation as I do and you added a bit extra, by telling me to be patient and let the seeds actually 'just' ripen. Thank you very much. Now I will just need to work out how to keep the seeds from disappearing as they do every year.
