erani , a lot of the books we use might not be suitable for help in growing in your climate as most of us are based in the U.K.(although we do have a few members in Australia, U.S., India etc.& have had your part of the world) & they will have advice on protecting things in winter, different plant pests & diseases etc. & some seeds & plants we grow over here need a cold spell in winter to grow properly so be careful that you don't spend a lot of money on books which may not be of much use, look for secondhand ones online or in bookshops. One I which I think you'd like is 'Colour for adventurous gardeners' by Christopher Lloyd , his book 'Exotic planting for adventurous gardeners' is also very good, they have a mixture of 'traditional British' & exotic perennial plants & are great for ideas of how plants look together, they are not really 'how to grow' books though. 'Grow Your Own Garden' by Carol Klein is a very good book showing how to grow all sorts of plants from seed, cuttings, offsets, bulbs etc. & has lots of photos showing exactly what she means, I also have 'Grow Your Own Veg.' & 'Grow Your Own Fruit' (I have hundreds of gardening books! ) by her which are very practical books as well.

I think it should be the other way round as we in the UK get so much from Japan. I have books on growing and showing chrysanthemums and bonsai for example. The various national societies are a good way to get expert advice and there are sure to be some in your country where you will get topical advice for that part of the world. Welcome to the forum by the way erani

I've got that book somewhere erani , I think it's 2 big books in a folder but mine is so old that the folder has fallen to pieces, it's very good for looking up plants you're not sure of.

I found my copy , it's an older version by Tony Lord but Sean Hogan was a contributor, he must have done an updated version. It's a good book because it has about all the different 'zones' in the world & will help you to decide what will grow where you live both in Japan & the Philippines. It's very heavy when you have both books in the folder, there was a CD with mine as well but I think I lost that years ago. Its really heavy.i just received it a while ago. I was shock by its weight.haha. Im starting to read now. By the way, how to add pictures in comments?

You need strong arms to pick it up erani! To add a photo you have to use a photo host such as 'tinypic' or 'Photobucket' & your photo should be no bigger than 640 pixels. If you click on reply or create a post the line of symbols at the top has a little picture after the envelope symbol. If you click on the picture a box will appear, you then have to launch your photo host & click on choose a file or upload & select your photo, copy & paste the link which shows for direct link & then paste this into the box on here (you may have to delete an extra 'http' which is already in the box. There are probably other ways of posting photos, some people just post links to their photos on a host site, but this is the way I do it. Hope this helps, I'm not very technical or good at explaining it.

Pleased you managed it erani. I don't think I could read the book on the right of your photo but it looks like it might be very useful for you!
