Life in the Cramped Lane
Well, there hasn't been a HUGE amount to report here in a corner of the Roofgardener. With eviction (voluntary or otherwise) hanging over things like a dark cloud, I've not really done a great deal. I've had to cram all my former standing units and shelves into The Annex, next to the Pointless Chimney and the Risible Downpipe. As you might imagine, this has resulted in a completely tangled and unusable mess ! After a lot of tidying up and throwing away, it's reached the point where I can plant and develop things. Of course, being almost July, it might be a trifle late for that... but what the heck. The small images above are posted onto the RoofNet, so you can click on them for a larger version. I've planted some salad leaf type things, (leaves, rhocket) and a bunch of Erbs, and I'll be sticking some radishes in this week. I won't have a huge vegetable crop this year, but hopefully I'll have some nice salads ! One thing of note; I've had a stab at using toilet-roll (and kitchen roll) inners as grow-tubes. I've planted carrots in the big ones (some of which have actually germinated), and spring onions in the others. (no sign of life yet). I have NO idea whether this will be a practical technique. The owls are deeply skeptical (indeed, they keep pushing the tubes over to annoy me). But then... that's why we try things. To see if they work. More to follow.....

Strange Flower
I came across this in my Sisters front garden. It's rather nice.
(click for a larger version). Does anyone know what it is ?

I love nigella/love-in-a-mist , I once saw a border in a garden full of them along with bright orange calendulas, looked spectacular from just a couple of packets of seeds the lady had sown to just fill a blank space. You're doing the right thing Roofy sowing fast growing salad/herb seeds, if you have any garden centres etc. nearby lots of them are selling off strips of little veg. plants cheaply now which would give you a good start & you could grow some of those in pots.

I'm sorry to hear of your predicament. I hope things work out for you. It's good that you haven't given up and sown some fast growing things.

Thanks Eli, and everyone I've just planted a trough of radishes, though I have NO idea if they will germinate; the seeds where all damp and clogged together. SueA, dianthus, thanks for the information about the Love in a Mist / Nigella. I'll tell my Sister on Sunday (Saturday gardening has been put back by a day), and we may try and gather seeds. It is a lovely-looking plant.

Well, a quick update on the Badger Saga. My Sister thinks they are siblings, a male and a female, and are quite young. The male - Bertie - came visiting early on evening, whilst the lights where still on, so we have a proper photograph (and video) of him. Doesn't he have a HUGE nose ?

And there ends 2017. It was a difficult year, with not much gardening done. Mind you... there where SOME successes.... the Spudlinks where good, and some of the onions. The Radishes where... OK... but huge room for improvement. So lets close this blog, and start again in 2018. Moderators; could you do the honors and lock this thread ?
