Last week I went out to get some cell trays for transplanting some seedlings and to sow a few seeds but all the stores I went to had relegated their garden related stuff to the store cupboard or whatever and filled the shelves with Christmas stuff. There was shelves already full of Christmas stuff from middle of September. I wonder what makes them think that gardening comes to a grinding halt at this time of year. anyway their loss as I ordered online.

You can order Christmas stuff online too Sweetpea, can't beat a good selection box with snakes and ladders on the back and a cut out dice that you have to poke a matchstick through

I remember buying a selection box like that for my first 'boyfriend' at primary school (we were about 10 or 11), he'd given me a fancy handkerchief set which had a toy 'diamond' ring around the middle hanky & I thought it was so romantic until I found out he'd given a similar one to my friend - love cheat/hedging his bets ! I almost asked for the sweets back! Bents garden centre near us are actually having a full Christmas Market with food stalls etc. this year - Christmas is big business for garden centres nowadays as I think lots of people order gardening items, seeds, bulbs etc. online in winter like you did sweetpea. Really annoying if you just want to call in somewhere for a few gardening items & are faced with a wall of tinsel & flashing lights but I suppose if they didn't do that a lot of them would close down completely. 3 garden centre/nurseries we used to go to have closed down in the last couple of years, one is being used for housing, one for mobile luxury homes & the other site is still up for sale.

I ambled into Wilko's and discovered a similar thing; the gardening stuff had been relegated to a single display board, with very little there. The PLUS side is that the few things remaining where being sold of cheap, including a neat little DIY raised flower bed attractively priced at just £5.00 each. I shall be blithering on about these at GREAT length once I've assembled them

It's officially Christmas now, we made our first visit to the Christmas Markets in Manchester last night. Lots of extra security with armed police & concrete barriers around it but still very festive. In contrast to the garden centres there's a fair bit of gardening gear/plants/bulbs available at the markets & I ended up buying 2 packs of crocus for £2 each. Some of the bulb stalls are in the illuminated huts at the front of this pic.
