It is raining, not enough to do that much good, but enough to stop my morning walk.

Collected a bagful of wild plums on my morning walk. They are now jammed and lovely tasting too. Sadly though there are a lot left on the bush, we have no need for more Jam or chutney and the plums are not really suitable for eating, too much tannin in them. Dug out a conifer stump (Juniper form) and a taller conifer (sad, but the bottom half of it was dead}. Now need to dig in a load of compost to feed the soil before planting in the gaps left. Tried out my new chain saw sharpening tool (Lidl) but since I have a new blade in the saw I won't know if it has worked until I need to change the blade.

Cut the rest of the grass. Potted up a dozen or more baby Cyclamen hederifolium and a few Auricula seedlings. Had a go at digging out a conifer stump, that will have to wait until the pulled muscle in my shoulder is a lot better. No more gardening until this evening, we are going to visit friends.

Lost a lot of plants to molluscs this year. Been out most nights killing over 500 of the slimy critters each time. This afternoon, after a nice walk round Powys Castle Gardens. I mowed the grass on the Vista. Don;'t think about it at the time but that works out as an 800 metre walk! Did call in at our favourite Nursery on the way home (The Dingle, Welshpool) and bought.......nothing!

That was only half a day. Most of the morning went taking the Boss into town shopping, going to the Recycling Yard, going for my morning walk, going back into town for the Boss and then it was lunch time. Will be going out with the torch in a while to see if I can find the slugs in the Alpine Hose.

Watered both greenhouses, all the frames and the other plants in pots on the concrete for which there is no room in the frames. Picked a big box of Blackberries and a smaller box of Blueberries. Picked up all the windfall apples, the decent ones for purée for winter consumption and the wormed ones for the compost heap. Got to them before the wasps. Planted two Hyssops since the slugs have decimated them so they may as well be in the Bee Border as in the frames. Spent some time cutting up conifer branches so that they fit in a builders bag to go to the Recycling yard next time I go into town. Now going out to do a little more!

We were at D.C. too, but did not see the robin. Bought 1 plant and 1 bulb and three books.

I think these are always the first indications of Autumn. Colchicum autumnale Mind the berries on Euonymus europaeus look quite good too. And there are always Apples. Katy.

Thanks again. Big dose of Gavascon, a Ranitidine tablet or two and a good nights sleep and all the results of indulgence go away............until next time.

It was very nice and definitely worth the chronic indigestion that I have now from the chips and the incipient migraine from the lactose in the ice cream. We also bought dozens of packets of bulbs at give away prices which will need dealing with tomorrow.

No water in this river, except at very high tide!

Thank-you. A treat, we shared a small bag of chips to eat with our smoked salmon sandwiches and salad. Then a prize winning ice cream. We did walk along the river first though and went garden centering.

And as one of only 2 teachers who managed to get in on one really bad day some years ago, looking after 400 children between us in the Assembly Hall when the yard was unusable because of ice was no fun. And because we were only teachers we had no authority to close the School either. Yes, we were told that if the place closed it had to come off holidays. Very often the decision about closing is taken by the LEA not the School so the Absentee worry is a non starter. No Head would close a school on those grounds and remain a head for long.

Just remember, if you are feeding guinea pigs or rabbits that lettuce is not good for them. The juice is an opiate and can make them constipated if they eat too much.
