Good to know SueA. I was born in Winton but 'crossed to the other side' in 1969. Did you know a new garden centre is planned for the Retail Park at Urmston, near McDonalds.

I'll also try that sweetpea, thanks. Feeling quite enthusiastic and am beginning to visualise the riot of colour I'm hoping to achieve this year.

Hi Mattalo - yes please keep me posted on the hollyhocks. If mine do flower (and it is a big IF with my lack of experience) I will try to figure out how to post a pic.

My order from TM was similarly packaged. Not impressed.

Hello Paul, welcome. Enjoyed watching the video and can see you've got a lot of work to do. Would be interested in seeing how your garden progresses from time to time. Can't wait to see how it develops.

Hello SueA - and thanks for your welcome - guess you are the other lady from Manchester Rosie mentioned in her welcome yesterday. Are you in Eccles somewhere ?

Thanks ladybird - I'm sowing sweet peas soon so will try your tip but after reading advice on this site, it is recommended to start them in September for the following year.

Good morning grindle and thank you for your welcome. Quite entertaining watching the 'assault course' the squirrels go through to reach my neighbour's bird feeder, but they've been digging in some of my pots too so suspect they are after bulbs or hiding nuts. There's a local moggy that also sits in one of the feeding baskets on the bird feeder - just passing the time of day and eating the bread.

Hi Mattolo - I'm a newbie on Garden Friends today and have been having a good look around the site to familiarise myself with navigating around it.
Loved your pics and the video. Noticed you'd gown some Hollyhocks. I'm going to try to grow some for the first time this year - have you any useful tips that you can pass on.

Hi peony - nice to 'meet' you too - very friendly welcome for me today. The squirrels are a pain - they chewed the roof off my corner garden shed and I had to have it re-roofed. Got my own back though - planted a prickly climbing rose over the shed which seems to be a deterrent.

Would the cardboard rolls from toilet rolls be suitable as mini pots ?
