Couple of views of Tel's Wyn's Favourite. Told his family last year I'd try and get them on the show bench if I could. Managed to get some cuttings and this little vase was a quick arrangement done this morning. Hopefully there will be at least 3 left for Shrewsbury Show next week. They area a little on the small side at present but now I know a bit more about them I can try next year to get them a little bigger. But nice colour and form to them, and they've survived several days of rain and wind quite nicely.

For my 150 plants it's an hour a day when they are growing rapidly.

One side shoot only. Grow up 8 foot canes in double rows 12 inches apart. Plant 8 inches apart in rows. Tie in every 6 inches. Keep well watered. When 6 foot tall and still growing strong layer them. Cards will follow

Just received the results. Thanks to Ian for suggesting I enter as Greenways Zoe got a certificate of exhibition merit. Here's the full list of winners
The overall winner received the Harry Howarth Memorial Medal plus a Gold Award. This was Askwith Josephine, a white medium decorative from Ernie Cawkwell. A further Gold Award was made to Sheval Megan, a red small decorative raised by Terry Bratcher.
Two Silver Awards were also given. The first to a dark red miniature decorative from Barry Davies, named Barbarry d’Amour. The second Silver Award went to Clayt’s Candy from Clayton Beale.
Three Bronze Awards were made. Fred Wilson from Leek Wootton near Kenilworth produced a yellow large semi cactus called Cryfield Edna. The second award went to Askwith Edna, a medium decorative from Ernie Cawkwell. The blooms were eye-catching in blends of yellow and red. The third award went to Highwarden Cliff. This medium semi cactus in straw and orange blends from the late C Rushton of New Zealand.
Two varieties were awarded Certificate of Exhibition Merit. Graham Johnson from Shrewsbury has a yellow sport of Ryecroft Zoe that he has named as Greenway’s Zoe. Les Stothard of Blyton,Lincs has produced a white small decorative called grew Blyton Everest. This is the second with this name, replacing his previous offering

I'll be starting them off January 1st this year. But yes, the season has started thanks to the local badgers !!! Where I grew them down the allotment, said badgers have taken quite a fancy to the beds I grew them in, so I'm making new beds and leaving the old area alone so they can dig and poo away to their hearts content.
Then at home, I'll be changing the soil where I'm growing them. Been growing in the same soil for 10 years, so I reckon it's time for a change. So when I get the dahlias up, I'll be replacing the soil from the sweet pea beds with that from the dahlia beds.

There are quite a few people who supply re selected top quality onion plants, from stock that has won at all major shows. If you are serious about growing them, they come at £20 for a dozen. Medwyns would be well down my list of suppliers, as would Robinsons.

scrumpy didn't spot your Greenways Zoe? I couldn't reach it as the beds were a bit overgrown!! Just about catch a glimpse of it next to Ryecroft Zoe.

Patriot is a pink miniature ball/dec HeHe HeHe it is for sale as a mini ball. So, you have seen it with your Judges' 'hat on' ian and agree that it is a 'real' ball dahlia? Rather than a Mary's / Jomanda ball dec? Also does it suffer from fading / need covers?
After being at another show where Mary's / Jomanda won I have decided that's it, I am really going to go for an alternative. I grew 2 plants of Blyton Softer Gleam this year and next year I want to push it up to 3 plants. (Now for me that is a massive decision and commitment) (2 plants was pushing it for me this year).
I have tried Shelia - nothing particularly wrong with it but nothing particularly special about it. Clearview Daniel, not that fussed on. So I am looking for a really good miniature ball and it really needs to be really good enough to be a contender with a real chance of beating Mary's / Jo.
In an ideal world I would have a stunning dual small / miniature classified variety - might even push up to 4 plants if there were.
Talked to my Dad about it, he is going to give me a ball seedling of his, maybe I will get lucky. Got to try something.
These were my entry of Blyton at Southport. Ian doesn't rate it as it loses it's form.
