Lily has been in the conservatory and then the kitchen since mid-afternoon when the engineer brought her up to the house. She does everything at worktable level and is sitting on the table just now. When she was put outside, she shot straight in again, so I have fixed her up a dirt tray with dry old compost in a seed tray with no holes. So far, she has done nothing to endear me to her so she should smarten up if she wants to live in the house. She bites and spits if pushed off. I don't like cats in high places, so in the morning I shall have the disinfectant out. I am untidy, but clean.

She'll settle eventually, Cherry - she's obviously feeling discombobulated. Poor Henry has yet another itchy sore place under his chin. We've been so careful about what he eats, so why it's back I really don't know.

I don't like cats on worktops or tables either Cherry, when we had our last cat she rarely jumped up but if she did I'd just give her a 'look' & say 'down' pointing at the floor & she'd get down, Lily will learn- eventually! Before we adopted the cat with our then neighbours she was partly wild with her sister from a house where they were neglected & I once caught her sister on the worktop throwing slices of bread from a pack onto what would become our cat on the floor- I'd left the back door open & they'd sneaked in! Cats like to be high up - maybe you could put a blanket on an old side table etc. where she is allowed to sit in the kitchen or one of those cat play platforms?

We've been so careful about what he eats, so why it's back I really don't know. That is bad Geranium because Henry will drive himself and you nuts scratching this easy to reach place. Poor Henry. SueA I had to look this one up. Lily will be more out than in. She has to earn her keep. She is familiar now with the arcon and the hangar and just the smell of her will keep vermin away. I put a fluffy baby blanket on the worktop in front of her last night and she stepped on to it. She did not use the little tray and husband had to wrap the blanket around her to lift her out spitting and growling. She did like being in and we will have to have her in at nights until she is settled here. Sammy just ignores her and they slept in the same room with no bother.

Cherry, may a make a suggestion on how to soothe Lily? Get a piece of rope or hosepipe and form it into a circle on the floor where you want her to be and watch what happens.

I suppose Lily feels more secure being higher up Cherry as everything will be strange for her still at the moment but it sounds as though she & Sammy 'have come to an agreement'! When our cat was on her last legs she suddenly took to sitting on top of the washing machine, but not just the machine - on a cook book which I'd left there which she just about fitted on. After she died I had to throw it away (the book, not the machine! ) as I couldn't get the paw prints, hairs & cat dribble off it. Did Lily live outside in France, if not it will probably take her a while to give up the cosy house?

daitheplant Lily doesn't spend any time on the floor. She is all high level. SueA I just found out that she did not get on with her sister as well as the alsation, so she couldn't have been too happy. She is very thin and small.

Cherry, trust me. Just try it. What do you have to lose? I assume you want her to be a ground cat, so, when she sits in the circle make a fuss of her and give her a treat.

Not yet. My husband let Lily outside last night as she went to the door and asked, then went to the conservatory door and waited also. It was a freezing night, yet she didn't come back. She went straight to the hangar and slept in the cold. Silly cat. The engineer said not to let her out tonight, so she is in a basket by the heater with a dirt tray nearby. This is a temporary arrangement I hope.

I'm sorry you seem to be having trouble with Lily Cherry. Cats don't do what we want. You just have to accept them as they are.
Bella won't come on anyone's lap, like the other cats did. She just likes to sit on the floor and stare at you. I want her to sleep on my lap - she won't. When she first came here, she spent about 10 days under a chest of drawers in the bedroom. With a cat it's best to go with the flow and let them settle into a new routine in their own time.
