He's still off his food...we're going to make an appt. to see the vet. I thought you'd done that yesterday ?? poor boy. No, OH wanted to find out if it was the new food he doesn't like, or if he's off all food. I tempted him with all sorts yesterday and I was really, really relieved that he gobbled up everything, so it's the dog food he doesn't like. For breakfast I made him porridge, then he had white fish mixed in with a little dog food, and his biggest meal was more dog food mixed up with tuna and a little mayonnaise. Gourmet living, but he's worth it, and he was a happy dog again.

Mix in the new food gradually as a further experiment. He maybe just thinks it is strange. I am really pleased he is alright.

Was it the new food that was making Henry be sick then Geranium? I'd check with the vet if they recommended it, maybe it's not just that he doesn't like it but there's something in it he's allergic to.

Lily is a very happy cat now, but still terribly thin. What a beautiful cat Cherry. May I ask, has she been wormed?

You haven't read Cherry's story about the worming episode on the previous 2 pages then daitheplant? Lily looks a lot more relaxed Cherry , maybe she will put a bit more weight on now she's settled, Bengals always look fairly 'slinky' to me anyway.

He shouldn't be allergic to the food, SueA as it's hyper-allergenic. We will have to tell the vet though, as this is the third one they've tried since all that skin trouble he had. I do hope I can keep this regime going with mixing in his food with 'tastier' things...I will indeed cut them down and use more of the dried stuff until I get the balance right. He's allergic to all cereals except oats, so anything with rice in it is a no-no. I have to read the small print on treat packets and you'd be surprised how many of them use 'rice starch'.

That must be a pain having to check everything Geranium, is Henry gluten intolerant? One of my O.H.'s colleagues is, he has coeliac disease which I think dogs can get too, it would tie in with Henry's itchy skin, joint pain & vomiting & probably his howling too as he would be feeling low.

The tests the vets carried out were very comprehensive and that wasn't mentioned, SueA. Wouldn't they have picked it up with blood tests etc?

I'm not sure Geranium, I think it's difficult to diagnose in humans never mind animals & it may be one of those things which some vets think dogs get & others don't. It took ages for O.H.'s friend to be diagnosed, he is a very fit & active guy who does a lot of running, cycling etc. but was becoming very ill, losing weight, being sick, aching joints, stomach pains & it's taken probably a couple of years to get to the right diagnosis. He has to check everything he eats now & feels a lot better but is still not 100%.

Lily is a very happy cat now, but still terribly thin. Cherry those Bengal cats don't get fat, my sister in-law used to breed them they were so hypo and she used to say they never got fat, I shouldn't worry to much as long as she's eating, she looks happy enough.

lesley, that is a great comfort. I can feel her backbone and there seems to be nothing of her when I nurse her. She is much more relaxed and eats very well now. She has almost got out of the habit of living at a high level because she gets shouted at if she goes on to the worktop. She now knows what is expected of her. I expect her to catch some rabbits, but she chases them back to their area, which keeps them away from the garden. I don't think she will catch rabbits, but she catches lots of mice. Lily is a very curious cat.
