I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that the birds are eating loads more feed, is anyone else noticing this ? There's a huge increase.

Ours seem to be eating a lot as they're all feeding young, we have the family flock of sparrows back roosting in the conifer & they eat a lot. I've also noticed though that they've started throwing seed all over the ground under the seed feeder as they seem to select their favourite bits, cheeky devils! ;D

I don't know if mine eat alot (first year feeding and all) but i do know that they don't like empty feeders!! they knock (or more like throw it) to the floor if its too empty for them. I do seem to have allot of birds come down to feed but no one else that i can see puts food out! They also seem to prefer nuts fat balls and bread the seed feeder doesn't seem to go down, the only bird Ive seen using the seed feeder goes into the feeder its self from the top and happily scoffs without hassle from the other birds (don't know if its the same bird each time that does this )

The birds here gradually give up eating their food in late spring. There is so much here with fruit (the plums are ripe) and seed from the hay and wheat that they just don't want extra in feeders. I won't be putting food out for a long time yet but I do keep water topped up for them.

Yes, there are a few young ones being brought to feed, i've noticed the long tailed tits a lot recently - their favourite food by far are the square suet blocks from Wilkos ! The jay is around a lot too and it looks a lot like he's lost a leg

That must be a sight Peony, we have Jays in the orchard but they rarely come into the garden.
Our birds are getting through double the quantity of food they normally do, it must have been a good breeding year this year.

I usually only get a single jay visiting the feeder, I've never seen a group of them before. My birds are eating a lot too WF, some of the blackbirds look really scruffy now and I keep finding the odd feather around the garden so I think some of them have started their moult.

The Jay/s i see here have been around the feeders more too and the amount of feed all the birds are getting through now is colossal. This morning i'm doing a second attempt at feeding chopped sunflower hearts - i tried them about a year ago and it was a definate 'thumbs down' from them but i'm going to see what happens today. Four of the feeders have the chopped hearts and only one has the normal hearts. Last time the chopped pieces were discarded and thrown to the ground and i'm quite expecting that to happen again but i'm going to see what the day shows first. It's not really surprising, i suppose, because the majority of the birds that feed from the feeders are from the finch family and their eating habit is to remove outers from an entire seed - it's only the tit family that will eat tiny sections of a thing. I'll bet you a book of stamps that the same thing happens this time as last .... watch this space

I owe you a book of stamps - they're eating it ! I've been putting out the suet blocks as usual but realised that these were bought last year - does it go off, do you know ? The birds are still eating it but i just wondered if it had a shelf life - there isn't one stamped on it anywhere

Does it look or smell funny? Otherwise, I'd imagine it'd be fine.
Our birds aren't eating as much - so that's strange. The fatballs are still there - normally I have to add more every day.
