I bought this for £1 at our village Street Market because it isn't labelled, it looks like a ginger lily to me, but I don't know which one But I couldn't refuse it for a pound could I

Bargain! I agree, it certainly looks like a Ginger Lily. I like it's relative to the right in the blue pot too

Hedychiums and Roscoea are certainly from the same family, but they are chalk and cheese as my gingers died in the green house and the Roscoea survived winter temperatures in the garden and flowered in a big bunch. On account of this I bought another pot of a different colour.

On account of this I bought another pot of a different colour. Yes Cherry, the R. beesiana is definitely hardy, the pot got frozen in the greenhouse last winter, but it survived as you can see. I shall keep this new one in the greenhouse over winter and if it survives hopefully it will flower next year, but if it doesn't I've only lost £1

My daughter in Queensland is very fond of her gingers and they grow beautifully there. Hoya carnosa is native to her area, but she grows it up the back of the carport and just hacks it down when she is gardening. These things are more precious to us here.

That is a very pretty colour I noticed yesterday I have a flower bud on my plant - every year I am surprised to see the plant reappear ;D
