Thanks Derek, do you put 1 seed per tube or more? (I hope that that isn't a silly question)

I sow three or four seeds in each , Moonlight.(make sure they are right in the centre) then if more than one germinate reduce them to one.

That is a real shame about the great tits Derek. All that work for the parents and it has ended with this tragedy.

Thanks, Cherry. The allotment on the front cover isn,t mine but most of the pictures in the book are what I have taken. There are a few taken at school as well as those on my allotment.

Good illustration of aerial roots on the heptapleurum derekbrooks. I had to look this up as I have never heard of it, but I did know its common names. The vases look very good in the show.

Who arranges the flowers in the church Derek? Is it the people from the congregation who are good at this, or do you do them all?
As it is a farming village here, the sacks are refilled and the booty taken off to the Macmillan Cancer charity coffee morning, unless we want any small amounts. We have a barbeque brunch. This is quite different to the Oxfordshire village where I lived before which involved the primary school and each person brought a food gift of some sort. The Methodist chapel in the village auctions their farmed veg and fruit, including the flowers, and sends the money abroad to chosen charities.

Hi Cherry It is a Methodist church that I go to.I don't do any flower arranging-we have ladies that do it.At harvest the flowers are taken to elderly or sick people . Members of the congregation are asked to take tinned food which is taken to a mission . They can't deal with fresh veg so that which I take will be given to anyone who wants it.

Thanks for the answer Derek. Every individual church deals with thanksgiving in a different way.

The veg basket and flowers are beautiful derekbrooks. Have a wonderful holiday in Malta. You got the timing right as you have had the good weather here and this is due to normalize to cold half way through the week.

Hi Derek, something I don't know too much about but do you grow any and can you recommend any of the old fashioned hardy Chrysanthemums that do well in the garden? I only know of two old varieties (Clara Curtis and Mary Stoker). We used to get these at work once and were considered reliably perennial in a garden as long as well drained. I've seen a site that has some modern hardy types but wondered if you grew any?

Hi Steve I have just returned fron holiday and seen your question. I'm afraid I can't be much help to you though as I have never grown any of the chrysanths that you are thinking about and supposed to be hardy. All the chrysanths I grow are not considered hardy and I box them up every autumn and keep them frost free over the winter and take cuttings in the spring.
