My son's girlfriend commented on the amount of ladybirds about. They are everywhere here.

Went out to the wheelie bin this morning, found a ladybird on the path, I thought it was a dead one, picked it up and there was a slight movement from it. Placed it on a newspaper on the warm bench in the greenhouse, a hour later it had moved somewhere in there.

Where do ladybirds go for the winter? The snails are still hiding. That's one bonus of the cold weather. I keep finding them clustered together under rims of pots, behind troughs and inside my chimneys - which all have pots in them. How do they get there? They all go for a rude awakening - a swim in the stream. ;D

Ladybirds tend to hibernate in groups in crevasses in trees, under bark, gaps in fences or even in houses sometimes Geranium. I've seen them occasionally in the joins beside the fence post & panels by the back gate & sometimes have spotted odd ones apparently asleep under leaves. Haven't seen any here yet but there may be some around the garden. I think the slugs & snails have woken up though as I was looking for my 'black' hyacinths & found some chewed off stumps of leaves where they should have been!

You learn something every day! I haven't seen any yet. As I said elsewhere, I found yet more snails stuck fast (in groups) in the crevices of one of my walls - snoring quietly, no doubt. ;D I have found little slugs around, though. They're definitely up and doing! I think there must be a few snails around - our thrush is back and has been busy - I've found empty shells.

There are a lot of ladybirds hibernating in my horizontal juniper bush and I've also got a few in my shed

I hope mine are all right - I need them for when the aphids wake up! I still haven't seen any.
