I think its mould its white furry stuff on my african violets and stephonotis
ive washed the leaves with neat fairy liquid have i overwatered them

Don't know about the stephanotis Joyce, but in the case of the african violets, you probably have over watered them; the neat washing up liquid would have done more harm than good

You should always water African Violets from the bottom as they will rot if the crown gets wet, and only water when the leaves just begin to droop. Feed half stregnth too and you get lots of flowers ;D

It could be mealybugs, especially if the 'mould' as you call it is in the leaf axils.

Neat (or diluted) fairy liquid is far too strong a product for plants, i fear you might have killed them now

Thank you all for the replies I have one healthy african violet plant so i will dispose of the others and hope the stephonotis will survive

I would empty your 1 african violet to check if there is any bugs in the compost Joysie.

i have thrown out the violets there was nothing in the compost my stephonotis looks very sick now can i spray it with anything as i dont want to lose it i will change the soil as well

Joysie, you did not say whether the 'mould' was in the leaf axils or not? We don't know what it is if you don't help out with a description.

i have put the plants in the greenhouse now after washing them with diluted fairy liquid the leaves were sticky and the plant looked sick i wondered if it was the colious i bought which was infected i have no plants indoors now i have cleaned the paintwork with bleach so ill have to clean the windows at the bottom now if i can manage with one arm in case the spores is still around the area
