This is the first time I’ve grown climbing French beans. I was expecting them to be exactly the same as dwarf French beans but taller. I’ve picked loads and given them away while we have been eating the runner beans MASSIVE MISTAKE. Yesterday we tried them for the first time and both went WOW. How can two beans with almost the same name be so different, we have both agreed we prefer them to runner beans. They are very prolific, I think I’m going to need a larger freezer.
Dwarf french beans make my teeth squeak, not keen on that.
Which do you prefer?

I have said this over and over again WF, but I will say it once more. Do you enjoy strings? You could floss your teeth with them, but nothing else.
I won't grow runners ever. I have climbing French on the wigwams of poles and Delinel bush French underneath. Heavenly. I love beans. (French)
I think the name 'French' beans is a real putoff. Why are they called that? I always wonder at the English eating runner beans.

French definitely better for freezing which is why you don't get frozen Runner beans in shops, on thawing runner beans lose any taste French keep it

I pick my runner beans very small to avoid all risk of there being a stringy one. If there is one that stands the slightest chance of being stringy it goes in the compost.
It isn't just the stringiness it is the flavor, I have definitely been converted to climbing french beans.

Do you blanch the beans to freeze them?

I used to but someone last year said they never bothered, I don't blanch them either now. I prefer them un-blanched but they probably won't keep as long.
It is so much easier, pick and put straight in the freezer.

Def french beans, i love the way they squeak against your teeth ;D ;D er, what teeth rosie? You should not have eaten sweets when you were little SP. The good news for me is that the block antibiotic I had to take before attending the dentist with my dickie heart is no longer needed. It has been decided that this is not necessary for anyone.

I know I don't grow either these days, so I shouldn't really comment, but I love runner beans! I used to eat a plate of them with a little grated cheese on for lunch. Yumm!
