I have a total of 13 orchids and I am so thrilled that I am getting new growth and maybe they may rebloom this year. I also have 2 vandas which are beautiful but find them not so easy to grow.

The OH has lots of orchids, he gets them all to flower again. I can ask him questions but I'd never get him to join in.

I find now neglect is better then too much kindness .You will know when they need a drink with roots are white and pot is light. I now tend to give a spray and they do not like the cold so have lost a few but I do tend to stick to the phals dobbies have good orchids one I bought in Aberdeen dobbies inMarch last year for £6 not in bloom now but new shoots growing.
I would much prefer buying an orchid plant then a bunch of flowers.
I will pay £14 or a wee bit more if it I its awee bit special .
I also sent for an orchid DVD if anyone ones the link happy to post.

We have a Phalaenopsis which has been flowering non stop for four years. I have a Cymbidium, I can grow these and get them to flower. I think it might have got a tad cold this year though. It looked like this just before the really cold snap The buds are still solid but they are not growing. This is also one of mine, another one that is so easy to grow and get to flower every year. I can only grow the ones which thrive on neglect.

My Cymbidiums are a law unto themselves, Wf. I put them outside in the summer months and bring them in again before the frosts, sometimes they produce flower stems, sometimes they sulk. I do feed them when they start flowering. What else do you do to get flower stems on yours?

I’m just lucky that it likes it where it is. It is planted in orchid bark and gets a drenching with the hose when I remember. I have another one which is waiting to be planted, it didn’t flower this year but it was near death when I got it. They do need to have a spell of cold temperatures to make them flower, perhaps you are not letting yours get cold enough for long enough. The Paphiopedilum (slipper orchid) is in the same bed and gets the same treatment, I have one in the house which hasn’t flowered and another in a pot in the conservatory which has, they were potted up at the same time, so I’m sure it’s the temperature.
