They look great, and the shelves look full of plants too. Do the children take some home, or are they used in the school?

The plants on the shelves are mostly for the school gardens ,Cherry, but occasionally they do take some home. They have been planting onions in pots recently to take home.

School "life skills"and garden club started again after two weeks holiday. I had kept 6 cucumber plants that I ordered from Dobies in my greenhouse for a few weeks to grow them on a bit.I took them to school and some of the life skills children planted them in the pots. The other children trimmed "Fred the head" In garden club we planted cabbages and culiflowers but the bed needed weeding first. The children did this in turns and the others weeded their own plots. Some children had winter onions in their plots that were ready for harvesting so they took them home. Before the holidays I thought I had removed all the side shoots from the tomatoes but today some were as long as the plant itself so when the children had gone home I stayed behind 20 minutes and removed all the side shoots. The plants need tying up but Gina said she would see to this tomorrow. I went back to school for a bit this evening and planted my spare runner beans in one of the spare plots.

They will think the fairy came in the night, but perhaps they will think they did it all.

Today the life skills children were pond dipping so I thinned out the swedes, turnips and beetroot. Two months ago we entered a potato growing competition.the idea was to see which school got the highest yield from tubers we were given. There were two varieties-rocket and Vales emerald.Today we had to harvest them and weigh them and send in the results. The garden club children did this. The yield from rocket was disappointing ,less than 500 gms. but the vales emerald yield was much better ,just over one and a half kilos. We also harvested the first radishes and all the children took some home. The chickens at school have finally laid the first egg and I was given the privalege of taking it home
