Not hardy enough for this spot. Am I wrong? You are making me think now? I think it was the wind which put me off it.

You could have carved the stump into a woodden sculpture, like this one I saw in a park ;D

The pic has not come up Hywel. Sometimes they show up next time I look in. I was lucky to get it reasonably level. Husband hated doing it and did not know if the saw was big enough. It would have been nice to have one carved. There is the picture now. That is magnificent.

No after looking it up you are right, but mine never lost a twig in the severe winter last year, we also get winds that brown the Acer leaves but the Liquidamber is thriving...could be down to microclimate again

that is a big job to tackle Cherry, your tree will look good there and it's amazing how quickly it all recovers

I saw Liquidambers at the Tree Nursery when I bought my Prunus. They looked amazing! Pity you can't plant one, but your Prunus will give you a lot of pleasure. What size tree have you bought?

I bought the Prunus serrula yesterday. It is 11 ft and half standard, although the trunk is quite high before branching. I was going to photograph it but the branches are so thin and 'whippy' it would not show up very well. I will have a shot at a photo after Christmas when things slow down a bit here.

Well, you shouldn't have any problems planting it in this weather, anyway! Did I tell you that my new Prunus subhirtella is flowering? The Nursery didn't think it would until next year, but it has quite a lot of flowers.

Beautiful tree Geranium. One of my favourites. Mine is a pink pendula so it flowers all at once just a little bit later than the usual sort.

Are we going to see any photos of your visit, Rosie?

Geranium, we did not take any because we know each other well now and have put photos on before.
Rosie was able to advise about the Arbutus unedo, which you may remember. I asked whether I should prune the lower branches off and shape the large shrub. The answer was just to do it. I think Rosie is right.
