Is it OK to divide and replant Japanese anemones now or should they be left until spring?

If you can dig the roots up, yes, now is good. I find they go down to Australia, and they're as thick as parsnips, too. Good luck, Peony!

Crikey Geranium I didn't know they have roots like that The ground here is still very dry so I'll have to give them a good soaking with the hose before I attempt the digging. Thanks for the warning ;D

Yes, mine too. They're real thugs in my garden. I had to use weedkiller on one clump that came up under my obelisk!

A much maligned plant for the reasons above but it's not only a lovely flower but trouble free and a it flowers when most have gone over. 'Charlotte' has always been a favourite of mine though I never actually had one, don't often see one for sale.

I've seen one called 'Hadspen Abundance' which I'd very much like to grow. The thuggish ones are anonymous, they're just tall, with single pink flowers.

Yes I agree with you Merlin, beautiful flowers late in the season and they do well in shade too. Mine haven't been invasive or self-seeded, they've just spread gradually over about 5 years. The bees love them too. But of course I may not feel quite so enthusiastic about them when when I get round to digging them up ;D

It's only the tall pink ones that do, Blossom. I've planted a few elsewhere in the garden - I have 'Whirlwind', 'Queen Charlotte' and 'Pretty Lady Julia' which are very well behaved. I tried 'Pamina' but it went and died on me.

This is 'Queen Charlotte', Blossom. It gets to about 4'. This one is 'Pretty Lady Julia', which is much shorter and has deep pink flowers. Here's the thuggish one, that gets to at least 5' tall and then flops. 'Whirlwind' is the only white one I have, and that gets to about 3' tall.

Well - if you see the pink single one, steer clear! I can't control it. I just think I'm getting the better of it, and another clump appears.
