Its well worth it.
Saying that, I only brew wine now.
Works out about 50p a bottle, but don't tell the government that or they will try to tax it.

4 Litres of Blackcurrant Hi Juice cordial. Not the one with sweetners.
4 kg unrefined sugar.
Tea spoon citric acid.
I sachet turbo yeast.
Boil cordial for 17 minutes to destroy preservatives.
Combine sugar, cordial & citric acid in 5 gallon bucket, top up with water, aiming at final temperature of 30C.
Stir in whole sachet of turbo yeast thoroughly.
Add lid with airlock & keep at 25c for five days.
Put somewhere cooler to settle out.
Comes out at about 20% so go very steady.
