We didn't have much when we got married. No washing machine, no gadgets at all, really - n ot even a TV in our first year or so! These days people think they're deprived if they get married and haven't got Sky and a wide-screen HD TV etc etc. Saving up for things was good - you felt a sense of achievement! If that was the case today we wouldn't need immigration to solve the Demographic timetable ;D

I grew up in the 80s so i cannot reminisce as far back as you can . I remember things like 5 TV channels, big chunky TVs and VCR. We had a commodore 64 (and loaded games from a cassette tape) and also an Atari (Upgrading to the sega consoles in the 90's). Our first PC was one of the first Macintosh computers the printer was a dot matrix. Clothing was knitted (woolly) over the top frilly dresses and bows , and of course shell suits ha ha. I will always remember Mum and dad playing music on there various HiFi gear (Floyd, Genesis, Sabbath etc etc) on a Sunday Morning while cooking the roast. I think todays kids would throw the teddy out of the cot if they had to go back to the things we had . After all my 3 are growing up with 3 PCs in the house (Mac and 2 lap tops) 3 up to date games consoles, HD TV XL TV package etc etc spoilt i tell you, wounder what there kids will have!!! .

The mind boggles Floydie, I believe voice recognition and cloud technology' is the latest, no need for CD's ect. When your Grandchildren become teens they won't need to talk, they'll have thought technology Hopefully they'll follow you and do a bit of gardening as well.

I think our grandparents said the same about us, as we say about our grandchildren now. And those will say the same about their grandchildren when they have them in years to come ;D

Dug this out yesterday, thought I'd see if anyone wants it on ebay. It needs a good clean and a plug but I'm told there are people who prefer the old sound. Don't know what to do with the records, too heavy!

What ever the going rate Floydie. I'd like him to have it but first I must see if it still works. I bought it in the mid-seventies but didn't use it so it's been in a box (not dust proof) since. I had thought it better if it were collected as it must be a tricky thing to post! However there must be a means of securing the wobbly bits.

OH repairs and restores turn tables so if anything is off he would get it working up to spec again . His finished the speakers now so he will be looking for his next project . Post wise OH uses parcel force/ups as apposed to Royal Mail . I have no idea what the going rate would be OH would have an idea, he'll have to have a look later when he's home and make you an offer . If you do put this on Ebay put as much info on the specs etc as you can .

Thanks for the advice Floydie, I'll use lots of pics too. Next time ebay offer a 'free weekend' I'll list it. I've cleaned it and it works fine but I need help on it's value. There are lots of mark 2 about but the only mark 5 I could find was sold in 'mint' condition for £250! oddly only a few miles away in Warrington. It was nice playing my old records but there's not enough room for it (and records) which is why it got mothballed in the first place.

OH says give it a good clean (polish the platter with brasso the shinier the better), are you selling with the stylus?? if so mention the stylus make and model (if its a good one). OH says for price start around £50 (you could always add a reserve or buy it now price if you have a figure in mind . Also state pick up preferred but you will post via courier, (don't be tempted to post over seas its too much hassle state that also).

Thanks for advice Floydie, it's come up very well but I'll shine the platter as you suggest. Not sure about advertising it so near Christmas, what do you think? I think I'll take all the 200+ records to the PDSA. Strange really as many years ago the PDSA was a record shop where I bought some of them.
