We used to buy by brand but now it seems we buy according to what's on offer/promotions. We're all feeling the pinch and coincidentally our friends in China, middle east, South America and parts of India are starting to want the food we have. It's beginning to look like we'll soon be paying considerably more for our food so I for one intend to enjoy my dinner this Christmas. Maybe the Gov will give more credence to our food producers, even allotmenteers and gardeners. If I had space I'd grow much more veg but I'd have to go vegetarian as I know I couldn't grow animals to eat!

I rarely buy branded goods and only do it if their price is on a special offer and competetive, and i always look at the price of something before i buy it. Putting an item straight into the trolley without checking it first is unheard of !
Learning the value of money is something that should be taught to all children or their spending habits can get irrational.

The only thing we really need at Christmas is a 'warm' drink, mince pies and friends and Family. Oh and the Turkey! I banned ALL presents years ago as I felt ashamed of the waste. How many of you can remember making chain link decorations from coloured paper and recieving home-made pressies, oh, and if you were really lucky an orange.

Merlin, I was only talking about the chain link decorations this morning. I loved making these at school out of squares of shiny coloured paper. My father got a huge Christmas tree cut down and this was put outside and decorated with the chain links. The tree was a pine tree which we had as a windbreak for the orchard. Our presents were beautiful. I will never forget my big tricycle where a person could stand at the back. Everyone came to us and we had workers who lived in the sleepout and the army huts. (The orchard and housekeeper.) Trestle tables were put up and dinner was served here.
Memories!

You must be the best grandma in the world Esther. My grandma was always busy. I do a bit better, but now most of them are teenagers I just try to be understanding and enlist their help when clothes shopping. (That's rare.)

Memories get sharper and fonder as we get older don't they. I's sitting here surrounded by Christmas glitter, candles flickering, Christmas music and a nother glass of Liqueur from a little vinyard in Anglesea. At Christmas we'll be joining the Family/Children for the usual overindulgence and gluttony but the thing I'm looking forward to most is on Christmas eve when as usual we'll be joining friends and singing Carols in the Churchyard. They even bring in a donkey. Hopefully it will snow again as this year we'll have a friend from China who's never seen snow....or heard me sing!

My daughter was marvellous with my youngest. She helped him to make place mats and menus and generally helped to make Christmas. Georgie will be the same I think. Is she a cousin to L and T?
