Great Dahlias, Scrumpy! I do like the colour of Mary's Jomanda grown there - just a tone softer than any I have seen in New Zealand. Is it that colour all season where you live, or is it more intense earlier on?

The bloom is a little darker than the photo. Pretty much the same all season.

Interested to hear about composting the tubers. I did not realise that they would compost down. I have started digging mine up now.

Well, Dcdahlia, there are a handful of my tubers which I shall not allow to teach any of your tubers their wicked ways. They are not submitting to my will by bursting into life, even though others are on the verge of flowering. Definitely slackers. Bracken Ballerina and Figurine are both in the naughty corner, leaving me with no pink waterlilies. Castle Drive is also not in my good books with no hint of an eye on any tuber. White Purity, Kenora Macop B and Arabian Night look as though they may wake up soon, but they had better get a wriggle on. These are all ones I had last year. One or two of the new ones are being a bit slow, but they have come from a cooler climate, so they get extra leeway for acclimatisation.

A lady knocked at our door this afternoon, Brenda answered it, i was sat in the kitchen having a cuppa. Brenda shouted through there is a lady at the door who wants some advise on dahlia's. The lady wanted to know when the best time to lift her dahlia plants and the best way to store them over winter. It was a good job she did not have a bus to catch, if you miss one it is another half hour before the next bus. Anyway i explained to her what she needed to do about her plants. Has she was on her way home closing the gate behind her, she was rubbing her ear, i shouted to her you want to see a doctor about that ear ache. The lady muttered something i did not quite catch as she set off down the road. ;D

Helga is now showing colour on a bud. Tsuki Yori No Shisha looks as though it will open its first bloom today or tomorrow. A very thin bud, which I am sure will yield a daisy eyed flower, but it will still be exciting to see the first bloom of the season.
