Can anyone tell me what these peppers are please? I got the seeds from a swap and the lady who sent them to me doesn't remember what they're called either. They're hot. I thought they were some kind of baby bell pepper but they didn't grow any bigger so I tried a small taste test to see if they could be stunted bell peppers and I ended up running back into the kitchen from some ice cream.

They do look a lot like those and they are very pretty. I think the chillies are worth growing just for their appearance, so it is a bonus to be able to use the chillies.
Does the age of chilli seed have a bearing on germination?

Can't say for sure Cherry, I've been growing peppers for only 4 years. I found out that if it's fresh seed most of the time I get 100% germination and even if I store them in the ref 3 to 4 months later most of them don't grow anymore.
I lost a favorite choco bell when I forgot to grow a few plants last year, when I tried to plant the seeds I still had turns out they had gone stale. I bought another packet from the GC but the peppers were a different color (mine was a darker brown) and smaller than what I used to grow.

That suggests that age matters jrae. I kept some seed which Steve gave me some time ago and noticed that 'Fish' and 'Black Pearl' did not germinate. I will try again as I have kept a few seeds back.

Are most ornamental peppers edible as well? I've seen lots of nice ornamental pepper seeds in the GC but I'd rather not grow any peppers that I can't eat later on I'm thinking since peppers are also in the nightshade family like eggplants and most ornamental eggplants are not edible, some are downright poisonous so I was wondering if those ornamental peppers are good for eating or not.

I have found that germination drops off considerably the longer seeds are kept, I did have one surprise, 'Joe's Long' is dated 2008 and I still got almost 100% germination.
We have a lot of ornamental peppers for sale here (plants) which say 'not for human consumption', this is because the peppers are sprayed with wax to make them look better. I've never seen it on a seed packet. Look the variety up on the internet and see what that has to say.
