Last year I asked for help regarding pruning my tree peony and Steve kindly posted what Kelways advise, ie prune in February. I followed their advice and pruned just one of the main stems (to get a better overall shape) and it has worked well. There are still lots of buds forming on the other stems and several new shoots have appeared lower down

I have one with nice fat buds on too....I was surprised to see them so soon, the plant is only 3 years old and I thought they took longer to bloom ;D

I must do mine next year, I looked at mine earlier this year and then chickened out. Mine is in desperate need of a prune but I couldn't pluck up the courage.

I must do mine next year, I looked at mine earlier this year and then chickened out. Mine is in desperate need of a prune but I couldn't pluck up the courage. It is a bit nerve-wracking making the first cut WF I'm doing mine in stages, I cut back hard into the two most wayward branches and only took out any dead wood on the other branches. I've lost the flowers on the two cut back hard but buds have formed on all the other branches. Next year I'll cut another 2 branches back to just one bud. I'd say it is definitely worth doing it as there are lots of new shoots coming lower down.
