Edwin, where were you when I needed you? Mine are shifted now, but there was hardly any room for the runners to develop. I shall just wait and see. However, as they are all over the place and I wanted them together, the ones that have not been moved can stay and I will let you know what happens. However, they are still on sale, so many people must be planting now.

I can work out Dutch. The words I know are rather personal. My neighbour in Australia was Friesian and her neighbour was Dutch. The Dutch neighbour could not speak Friesian. There were a lot of Dutchies in the area of Victoria where I came from. Thanks for the info on the strawberries.

Last year I grew Malwina, Sweetheart, Lucy and Alice which I won't grow again when I replace them. I also grew Cambridge Favourite, Elsanta and Korona which were heaps sweeter so intend buying more of those this year and planting on the runners of those 3 varieties. Running out of space for hanging baskets, another couple of lengths of timber would allow me to put up another 2-4 baskets. After that I am going to have to get A LOT of wall planters/boxes to plant them in, wall space is pretty much about the only space I've left now

Cherry, did you know that people from Holland dislike being called/refered to as Dutch? As far as they are concerned they are Nederlanders.

daitheplant I am visiting more Netherlanders next week in New Zealand. I don't think they are too bothered. Moira's fiancée does not think about it and he is half Dutch.

Can any one help? My strawberries are in a raised bed, i put down straw last season but slugs/snails decimated every fruit before it was ready for human consumption, what can i do to help deter them (total extinction is not expected lol) Thank you

I use slug pellets and net the bed, to keep birds off the berries.

Slug pellets don't taint the taste then? Cool back to good old pellets thanks Tel
