Oh yes Geranium...sorry....I had to go back to the other page to see what you were on about......I posted 2 seconds after you...lol In answer to your questions..."The Kiwis"...namely.....Trelyn Kiwi; Kiwi Gloria; ....are the creme de la creme of the small cactus world...they win time after time after time. There is Deborah's Kiwi as well; she is a little bit more difficult as the "pink suffusion" can be a bit blotchy..... ;D

The first Kiwi was Kiwi Gloria Than from Kiwi Gloria came two sports, firstly Deborah's Kiwi Then came Trelyn Kiwi, this became the top exhibition one out of the 3 the form in my opinion is the same as Kiwi Gloria, but the blooms are easier to match for a vase.

A vase of Trelyn...those were grown outside, no covers. Got lucky with the weather that year.

So, basically, you have to know the growing habit of particular dahlias - and presumably, many dahlias are known as good 'show' plants, are they? I basically only grow the varieties that are winning at the shows up and down the country. The NDS winter bulletin have a round up of the results, from a lot of the local shows, Now and again i will buy a couple of new ones, if i like them. The kiwi's are not the easiest to grow and in some area's of the country they do not grow well at all.

Those are cracking dahlias Scrumpy, to say they were grown without covers. well i did manage to convince the wife to go out with the umbrella when the storm clouds were brewing Seriously, the last few years i've not managed a decent vase of them so i'm giving them a rest, along with a few other banker varieties, and am growing a load of new ones, so anything could happen this year.
