Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? The 3rd batch of purple basil seedlings I have aren't purple at all! It's leftover seeds from the packet and the first and second batches were pretty little purple ones, these new batch will probably end up in the compost heap but first I need to know what went wrong. The first and second batch of seedlings were grown in the shadehouse as well, same seed starting mix, same liquid fertilizer. But they've been getting more sun than the first two because they're in a different spot. Is that what I did wrong? Giving them more sun?

I saw Basil growing commercially in Norfolk. The soil was slightly sandy and the ph was higher than neutral. Irrigation was from a reservoir. The conditions here are drier than where you are, but for Basil I would think that it would be alright. This farm grew all sorts of herbs - marjoram, mint, etc.

I think most of us at sometime have been certain we sowed a certain seed and it turned out different. the sun won't make any difference to the leaf colour. They should still taste the same anyway.
