That is very suitable Twiams. You can grow lettuce anywhere where flowers grow. I have some of the long beetroot in a huge tub and they have germinated and look very pleasing. The tub is actually the top part of the septic tank but no-one could tell what it is made for. I filled it up to about 3 in. from the top so that the beetroot got more warmth and protection. Lettuce are shallow rooted, so your best composty soil should be in the top section. I feel quite excited for you and look forward to the photos.

Twiams, I grow the 'cut and come again' mixed lettuce leaves in plastic troughs, they do really well and the more leaves you cut off the more they grow. The seeds germinate very quickly and the leaves are ideal for sandwiches (or piggies!) ;D

You can also use sinks to grow easter egg radishes twiams. My son is always up in the early in the morning to snip a few leaves from the radish that he grows for his new piggies. He says the arrangement is tops for piggies, bottoms for him. ;D
