some lovely plants there Tel SteveN mum has this one and the blossoms are huge, I'm interested that you cut it right down to make the stems thicker, they are quite thin on hers and the blooms weigh them down, Seems harsh but this species flowers on new growth so can be treated like this. It produces thick sturdy shoots from the basal stump and also much larger heads. Worth trying! Incidentally, there is a new variety of this species (American selection) called 'Incrediball' with flowers in even bigger heads!

I have H. paniculata 'Vanilla Frais' and it is in its second year. There are lots of flowers on it, but it lies down completely flat to the ground. Weak stems again would you say?
I have grown H. paniculata 'Grandiflora' in the past, which I took from a cutting and it was a good strong bush.

Yes, grandiflora types and paniculata types can be hard pruned back in early March to get the strong stems and larger flower heads.

My purchases at the plant stall were Potentilla 'Ron McBeath', Geranium 'Little Gem' and Geranium 'Maureen'. I think she has the name of the last one wrong, as I've been researching it, and can't find it in any lists. I tried to contact her, with no luck so far.

I had an email from Throncroft's to say that my Clematis (and an Aktinidia) will arrive next Thursday. I ordered 'Etoile Violette', 'Warsaw pumpkins' and 'Lasting Love'. I want them early while they still have some flowers on them, then I can match them up with the roses and decide which will go where on 'the wall'. ;D
