Thanks for your condolences Rosie sweetpea steve it is much appreciated … You can ask your question steve, I will still be around. It's no good moping. Have you ever grown Maihuenia poeppiggii Eli ? I am sure when I had a large collection of Cacti years ago it was under Opuntia? But it is getting reviews of being almost hardy and very tolerant of cold and wet which usually finishes most cacti off.

Hi steve , I have never grown it but from what I've read it needs very good drainage so that it does not sit in water logged soil. In it's native habitat of Southern Chile and Argentina it grows on dry rocky soil in elevated places, so the water drains off easily. In other words it stays dry and can therefore cope with frosty conditions. I don't think it would survive frost if it was sitting in wet soil so a well drained rockery would be the best place to plant it in this country.
Thank you SueA
You can look forward to visiting a garden centre on another day grindle

Take care in the weather grindle.
steve I'm surprised about Rhipsalis, they grow in warm climates. I'm glad they survive in a cold greenhouse for you.

We had Beryl's funeral last Wednesday, after three weeks waiting. I'm glad it's over and I feel I can move on now.
