Two more bargains snapped up today At Marks and Sparks, bowls of Hyacinths reduced from £4 to £2 and they haven't even got colour on the flowers yet! At Focus very large Hostas placed among the 'damaged and dead due to the weather' section reduced from £10 to £1 ...I bought Hosta elegans, I did scrape some of the soil away and noticed plenty of green spikes and when I got to the checkout they had been reduced further to only 10p!! ...the lady on the checkout thought I was mad buying a dead plant and I didn't have the heart to explain, it's their fault for not employing gardeners ;D

Super bargains our Steve. I think all Focus stores are the same....our local one has been known to bin plants (thinking they were dead) and snap them in case anyone pinched them out of the skip and tried to claim money back on them.

Good grief! Now I've heard everything, Lou. I hate seeing uncared-for plants outside these DIY stores, so I tend to avoid them. No wonder I miss the bargains!

Our home base used to dump their "dead" plants and old or out of date products, but then they got permission to sell them for charity, had a couple of clematis for 10p and just bought 4 small bags of levingtons john innes seed compost for 50p a bag, more than enough for most of my seed sowing. We don't have a focus now ours closed a couple of years ago, but I always go the the TLC corner in homebase.

they did and they flowered their heads off last year. so I was doubly pleased. also got tomato plants that they had allowed the cold to get to, reduced to 25p so bought several varieties. I was late with seed sowing last year so they were a boon, I put them in the green house for a couple of weeks and they picked up. These DIY stores who buy too early and don't protect their plants are good for us. As most people won't buy if they look bedraggled for lack of water or scorched from too much wind, cold or sun, they get reduced and all they need is some TLC. I've had a few die on me but when you've only paid a few pence its not that bad, sometimes the pot would cost more!

Maybe I'm too cautious. I've seen some really dead plants outside some stores, but some could be hanging on to life, I suppose. I'm pleased about your clems!

I`ve been for a visit to B&Q today and bought lots of little bargains. The large oval collapsible bag with aluminum top and handle in the pic was £2, sorry I didn`t buy a few now. Got two downpipes for the greenhouse £1 a piece. A set of 3 large strong green recycling bags £1, (think I`ll use these for the groceries ) and best of all lovely terracotta veg labels 10p each, well! I bought them all I just had to. ;D
