has anyone else with a pond noticed there's not much pond weed survived this year? I thought it was just me but a couple of people I've seen have said much the same thing, usually by this time I'm hauling loads out, this year there is none visible

There was plenty in the drain, same as usual. The ducks and moorhen make tracks through it. Of course this is just wild.

To be honest we have some in the water butts down the allotment (duckweed) not sure how it got in but we have to skim it off and chuck loads away.....seems plentiful this year to me ;D

I have loads of oxengenating plants in my pond
Can anyone suggest what to put my water lilly on as the plant pot its standing on is to wide the height is a bit to big as the lilly never covered the pond last year so it never flowered as its just above the water
Also how to make something with fishing wire tied onto bamboo canes to stop herons eating my fish I am no good at explaining sorry

Joysie, get a stone heron and stand it by the pond. Grindle, quite a bit of duckweed in our wildlife pond. Have been netting it out but will wait for the spring now to continue. in the fish pond the pondweed usually dies off for the winter and comes back with a vengeance when the warmer temps arrive. oops! just noticed the date on your post Grindle. I didn't answer earlier cos I didn't see the post.

sweetpea I read they encourage other herons so im going to deter them with wire across the pondOn our pond we have frames with netting which we cover the pond with at night, removed during day as usually someone around. Not so much for herons though we have had one around lately but more to deter mink and any other predators.
