Had this morning on the allotment . When I staked some roses yesterday I hadn't got long enough canes so this morning I took some longer canes and did them better and went all along the path. I then tied up the dahlias again and disbudded some. It started raining about 11.00 so I sat in the car till it stopped after about half an hour. I brought some more onions home and also most of the shallots and I have dressed them up and washed them this afternoon .Some of the shallots were misshaped so no use for showing which is what I mostly grow them for but we can use them in salads. Went to the allotment again this evening and started weeding between the rows of turnips and swedes and thinned them at the same time.

Went to school this morning mainly to see to the tomatoes,to feed them, remove side shoots and tie them up if needed which I do every weekend. There is a grape vine running along the top of the polytunnel . When I arrived I had to duck my head under it. There was far too much growth on it over the door and I cut a lot off it. The rest of it a bit further along had partly come down and I had to tie it up to the top of the polytunnel again because it was impeding the growth of the tomatoes. It poured down while I was in the polytunnel so I stayed in there and sowed some more lettuce, cabbages and cauliflowers .When it stopped I went out and planted some lettuces that Gina had sown a few weeks ago. I then went home while it was still fine .As I have told you before, it is a long walk up the car park and I didn't fancy getting wet through like I did a fortnight ago. This afternoon I had about an hour on the allotment before it started raining again but I managed to finish what I was doing yesterday , thinning the turnips and swedes and weeding between them and the path behind them. When I got home I went in the greenhouse and gave all my plants that were in 5 inch pots and over, a feed.

A showery day today. This afternoon we intended going for our walk round Blackleach country park . We had arranged to take two other people with us. We decided though, not to risk the weather so we phoned them and told them. We didn't want to be caught in a shower when we were at the other side of the reservoir ,did we?. I decided to go to the allotment, though, because if it started raining I could just sit in the car. I'm glad I went because after a shower as soon as I arrived it was fine the rest of the afternoon till 5.00 and I was ready for coming home then. I put longer blanching collars on some of the leeks and covered the frames in which I had sown carrots with mesh to keep the carrot flies out.Spent the rest of the time tying plants up that needed it. Tied up the spray chrysanths and cosmos and put more ties on the antirrhinums and stocks to keep them growing straight.

You are probably wondering what has happened to me since weekend. I went to hospital on Monday for some tests but the doctor decided to keep me in and I only came home this afternoon but it is nothing serious .We went for a walk this evening and I will be back to my gardening jobs tomorrow.

Back to my garden and allotment after a few days in hospital. Some of the dahlias wanted tying again and disbudding , some chrysanths also needed disbudding. Also put more ties on some of the annuals. Potted a few more plants into bigger pots in the greenhouse. After we had been for a walk this afternoon I mowed the lawns then had about an hour on the allotment. I staked and tied up the sweet corn and put the third blanching collars on the rest of the leeks. This evening I have weeded the front garden again. I only did it a week last Sunday (11 days ago)but hundreds of tiny weeds were coming up again ,mainly chickweed.

Not done much today because of the weather. It has been raining most of the day , not heavy downpours but a constant drizzle. I went in the greenhouse for a bit this morning and took some cuttings from my regal pelargoniums of which I have three varieties .We went shopping this afternoon and when we got home about 3.00 it had stopped raining so I decided to go to the allotment. The most urgent job to do is to put more ties on the peas and sweet peas as they need doing twice a week. I also have some French beans ready for planting but the bed needs weeding first. So I made a flask of coffee as I always do when I go and found what else I needed to take but then it started raining again so I sat drinking my coffee under the car port then went in. It has rained all evening too so I have just been in watching telly. Hope for a better day tomorrow .Also we were due to go to Blackleach last weekend but the weather stopped us so we could do with going sometime this weekend.

A bit showery today but not as bad as yesterday. Went to school first to feed, tie up and side shoot the tomatoes. Also planted three courgettes . Went to the allotment after and put more ties on the peas and sweet peas. I'm glad it stayed fine while I got them done. I brought home the rest of the shallots and onions grown from sets and I have cleaned them up and washed them this afternoon. Also this afternoon I have fed my tomato plants which had tomatoes on and all my hanging baskets and tubs with tomato maxicrop and the dahlias and chrysanths with general maxicrop. This evening we took a chance and went to Blackleach and it managed to stay fine while we walked round.

Not many showers today but VERY windy. Spent most of the time staking and putting more ties on plants in the borders round both lawns. Also took a few fuchsia cuttings. Didn't know whether to risk going to the allotment this evening because I have a lot to do there but the sky was dull and it looked like rain so I stayed in watching football.

Yes Cat.I'm O.K. Thanks very much. Not a full gardening day but I have weeded the border round the back lawn. There were just hundreds of weed seedlings , mostly chickweed, like there was at the front. Been to the allotment this evening. There was a lot of space from where I had harvested the onions so I need to fill it with something. So I sowed a row of turnips , half of the row being Pablo, the variety that we got free from the N.V.S.I also planted a few lettuce there. I told you that not many of the French beans sowed direct had germinated and that I had some more to fill in the gaps. I managed to get all these planted, 24 altogether, but I had to weed the bed first. I brought home the first courgettes.

It has stopped raining this evening but it has rained all day. I have been in the greenhouse most of the day taking fuchsia cuttings. I have 16 varieties and I have taken 7 or 8 cuttings from each, that's about 120 cuttings .Most of them are in margarine tubs and a few in pots. They are stood on one of the warming benches but it isn't switched on. They don't need extra heat at this time of year. I have also potted just a few fuchsias from 4 inch to 5 inch pots.

A dull day but it managed to stay dry till this evening .Rosemary needed the car this morning so I stayed at home and weeded the rose beds again. Just small weeds like in the borders. I said yesterday that the majority of weeds in the borders was chichweed but in the rose beds there was a lot of oxalis. After going for a walk this afternoon I went to the allotment and carried on with the weeding. The beds are not too bad but some of the paths between the beds are rather bad so I concentrated on these. I also put another string round the potatoes because they were leaning over onto the paths. In the front garden at home, along the front wall is a row of marigolds "Tall Scotch Prize" but there are three plants in the middle of the row that have either died or not growing properly. I also have a row of this variety on the allotment so I brought three plants home from the ends of the row . More people see the plants in my front garden so I thought this was more important than those on the allotment and it looks bad with them being in the middle of the row. I also brought home the first turnips. It was raining a bit this evening but I went out and planted the three marigolds. They need tying to the canes and I was just going to do it when it started pouring down and it has rained all evening so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

There was something wrong with my computer last night and I still don't know what. I couldn't use it at all so I couldn't tell you what I had been doing but it is O.K. now, thank goodness. Both yesterday and today I have been on the allotment both morning and afternoon mostly weeding. Yesterday, apart from weeding I staked and tied up the broad beans and today I put more ties on the peas and sweet peas. This evening I have mowed the lawns.

Went to school this morning to feed and tie up the tomatoes. There are some climbing French beans there growing on an obelisk but it isn't tall enough so I fixed some longer canes to it .I then did some weeding on the veg beds. Can't remember if I have told you before but there is a weed in the veg beds at school that I don't get at home or on the allotment and there is none of it at Blackleach either (Scarlet pimpernel) After going a walk this afternoon I fed the tomatoes, dahlias, chrysanths, baskets and tubs like I did last Satutday Went on the allotment this evening. Planted 10 cabbages and 5 cauliflowers then carried on with the weeding.
