Apart from going for a walk this afternoon, I have spent the rest of the day washing the potatoes I dug up yesterday. I have spread them out under the carport to dry. Tomorrow I will give four of our neighbours a tray of them and put the rest in our disused coal shed at the side of the house. They must be kept in the dark and this is the ideal place . I have put to one side a few that were damaged a bit (put my fork through them). I will put these in a separate box to be used first. I have also ordered my winter bedding plants from Suttons. I phoned them because last year I got 270 extra value plugs for £30 but they are not in the present catalogue that I received yesterday. There are no extra value plugs in at all. The best they could offer me was 120 garden ready plugs for the same price so I ordered those. Not as many plants , of course, but they are bigger plants. [/url Potatoes drying under the carport]

This morning I gave four of our neighbours about 4 kilos of potatoes each. Had an hour on the allotment after and started weeding the root crop bed and the path in front of it. We did our walk round Blackleach country park this afternoon recording the birds and wild flowers. Went on the allotment again this evening and planted 10 cabbages and 6 cauliflowers. Had to weed that part of the bed first. Brought home the first calabrese and the first two beetroots.

Today I have tied up, disbudded and sideshooted the dahlias and chrysanths. When we went to Blackleach yesterday I was surprised how much the weeds have grown on the border since I planted it 5 weeks ago so I have been this evening and started weeding it again.

Went on the allotment this morning and tied all the gladioli that needed doing then carried on weeding the root crop bed. After a walk this afternoon I went to school to see to the tomatoes then did some weeding on one of the veg beds.I had picked some cherry tomatoes before but today I brought home the first 1.82 kilos of bigger tomatoes. Also brought home some rhubarb and a few apples. Went to Blackleach this evening and did some more weeding in the border.

This morning I fed my baskets, tubs and the larger pot plants again. We went for a walk this afternoon and I had about an hour on the allotment after just carrying on with weeding the root crop bed. Went to Blackleach again this evening but didn't get much gardening done .I decided to go in the visitor centre first and get my bird and wild flower charts on the wall up to date. Because the centre has been closed due to the lockdown I hadn't done them since March. It took me till 8.00 so all I had time to do after was cut the grass round the herb wheel and round the back of the L shaped bed

Wednesday is a day when I normally stay at home because Rosemary needs the car in the morning and up to about 3.00 in the afternoon. Spent most of the day weeding. Did the borders round both lawns, the rose beds, chrysanth beds and dahlia bed, not large weeds, just small ones like chickweed and bittercress.I could have gone on the allotment when rosemary came home this afternoon but I decided to carry on weeding at home. I did intend going this evening but the sky went very dark and it looked like rain so I didn't risk it so I finished all these beds at home.I also mowed the lawns. I know I have shown you pictures of my garden before but I took some more this morning because I think it is at its best now so I will show you.

Went on the allotment this morning. Did more disbudding and side shooting of the dahlias then did a lot of harvesting--runner beans, courgettes, lettuce, beetroot, peas and rhubarb .Also brought home some dahlias and sweet peas. We have three neighbours who I usually give veg to. Rosemary just wanted some runner beans and two beetroot so, this afternoon I made up three boxes with what was left for the neighbours . Some of my chrysanths are badly affected with white rust because I haven't sprayed them often enough. The main reason for this is because there are no shows at which I can show them so I haven't been as particular with jobs like this as usual. There are three varieties that are badly affected. They are no use even for cut flowers for the house. It is no use spraying them now, they should have been done earlier in the season to prevent it .So I cut down the plants and put them in the bin. Some varieties are not affected at all and some only slightly. I also took some more geranium cuttings and thinned some brassicas that I recently sowed in three inch pots to one per pot. Went to the allotment again this evening. Thinned some turnips and beetroot in the rows then carried on with the weeding. I finished the root crop bed and started doing the path up the centre of the plot. Also brought home some turnips.

Went on the allotment this morning and again this afternoon after we had been for a walk and carried on with the weeding. Brought home a lettuce and some loose lettuce leaves. I normally spray weeds on the paths round our church. The church, like all others, is closed at present but I thought I had better do them because if they are left too long they will be more difficult to get rid of. There is an outside tap where I can get the water from so I called yesterday just to see if I could still use it or whether the water had been turned off. It was still on so I won't have to take my own water . However I saw that the garden was overgrown with weeds .A lady called Sandra usually does the weeding but she obviously had not been , thinking it didn't matter with the church being closed. In parts of the garden you couldn't wee the soil for bittercress. It was seeding all over and there was plenty of willowherb too. So this evening I decided that I had better go and try to get rid of it and that it was more urgent than spraying the paths. I didn't manage to do it all so I will have to go again.I filled a large sack with the weeds.

It rained a bit this morning so I went in the greenhouse. I sowed some more lettuce in cell trays and also some gaillardia .If these grow O.K. I will overwinter them and plant them in the spring. After a walk this afternoon I went to school to see to the tomatoes . There were some cabbage and cauliflowers ready for planting so I started weeding the bed where they will be going but didn't have time to finish it so planting them will have to wait till next time I go. Went to church again this evening to do some more weeding but got rained off at 7.40 and it rained quite hard for a time so I came home.
