We went shopping this morning. This afternoon I intended going to the re-cycling centre with my old bird table and some weeds from the allotment but the car wouldn't start. I walked to our local garage and Nick, who usually does jobs on my car, came round and he said I needed a new battery . He is fitting a new one tomorrow. So I couldn't go anywhere so I put my new bird table in position . I knocked a stake into the ground and tied the bird table to it to stop it blowing over. My leeks were still in the house but out of 27 planted , 18 had died so I took the remaining 9 to the greenhouse and put them on one of my warming benches and switched it on. There are chrysanths on the rest of the bench .I also transferred some more plants from the other greenhouse.

The new battery was only put in my car about 3.30 so I couldn't go anywhere. So I have been working in the greenhouses all day. I have gone through every plant in my larger greenhouse, tidying them up and I transferred some more into the propagating greenhouse. I have left the floor on one side of the larger greenhouse empty and removed the shelves to leave room for sorting my canes and sorting the dahlia tubers into varieties.

The wellbeing walks and art club started again today at Blackleach country park after two weeks off so this is what I will be doing every Thursday for a while. I lead the walk with two other leaders at 10.00 for about an hour or just over then we go in the visitor centre for a drink. I go home about 12.00 for my lunch then go back for 1.00 for the art club till 3.00.I don't take part in the art club but I have to be there because Richard, the ranger, goes out. I just sit at my desk reading or carrying on with my writing and updating my bird chart on the wall. Today, with it being New Year I had to make and put up a new chart. Had some errands to do on the way home so didn't have time to do any gardening jobs after.

We went shopping this morning. This afternoon I went to the re-cycling centre , where I was going to go on Tuesday but for the car trouble. Took my old bird table and an old toaster and called at the allotment for four bags of weeds to take. When I got home I started sorting my canes in the greenhouse. I told you I had emptied one side of my larger greenhouse to make room. I examine each one to see that they are still solid. I put pressure on the bottom to see if any breaks off. If any does break off, they are still usable but, of course, they are a bit shorter. I then sort them into their various sizes and tie them into bundles. I am showing you a picture taken a few years ago to show you how I do it

It rained all morning, hard at times , so I carried on sorting canes in the greenhouse. It was dry this afternoon so I cleaned the car then carried on with the canes again. I have done all those four feet and over except the 8 feet which I keep in my shed on the allotment. I then started going through the 3 feet ones.

Like yesterday it rained this morning but dried up later. It was far too wet to do jobs outside so I carried on sorting my canes this afternoon and managed to finish them.

We went shopping this morning and this afternoon we went a walk with Rosemary on her scooter. I told you last Tuesday that I had lost many of my leeks. I phoned my supplier , called David, and asked if he had any more .He has sent me some more and they are bigger plants than the others. When we got home this afternoon I potted them up .He had to bend them to get them in the box so I have put a split cane on them and tied them to it to keep them straight. I switched another warming bench on to put them on. He says I don't owe him anything but it has cost him £3.85 in postage so I will send him at least that amount.

It has been dry today and this morning I finished weeding the border between the back lawn and the fence and started doing the rose beds.

At Blackleach country park today I finished making my bird and wild flower charts for 2022 and put them on the notice board. On my way home I called at the horticultural society supply hut for a bag of potting compost because I need some in which to plant my dahlia tubers and I didn't want to wait till the hut opens in February.

We went shopping this morning but I had a bit of time after so I did some more weeding on the rose bed. Heather, our daughter, arrived about 12.30 and she took Rosemary shopping at Bolton this afternoon. So I went on the allotment. It's not often that I can have a full afternoon there because if the weather is fine, Rosemary likes me taking her for a walk. I finished weeding the annual beds and then most of the dahlia bed.

Heather had never been to R.H.S. Bridgewater and she said she would like to go so her and Rosemary went this morning . She pushed Rosemary about in her wheelchair. I carried on with my gardening jobs. I had to fix a new bracket under one of my greenhouse shelves. I then put the shelves in position. I carried on weeding the rose beds after. Heather went home, back to Wales at 1.30. I took the tomato pots back to school that I had washed then went to Blackleach to do the bird count.

I had to take Rosemary to hospital again this morning. This afternoon I had to take my car to the garage so I couldn't go anywhere else. So I went in the greenhouse and started preparing for boxing up my dahlia tubers. I washed five boxes to plant them in then I sorted the tubers out into their varieties on the greenhouse floor. I started trimming them up by cutting off all the straggly roots but didn't have time to finish them.

On the way to going shopping this morning I posted three orders that I made out last night. One to Suttons for a lot of plug plants for my summer baskets and tubs , one to Marshalls for onion sets and some more sweet peas and one to Parkers for my gladioli. We went a walk this afternoon then I carried on with my dahlias. Finished trimming them up then put compost in the boxes and putting the dahlias in but didn't have time to finish them. I have no light in this greenhouse at present. I am waiting for my electrician putting a new light fitting in . If he had done it I would have been able to finish them.
