It rained a bit first thing but didn't last long. I went on the allotment and started pruning the row of roses along the back but only had time to do about half of them. We went a walk this afternoon with Rosemary on her scooter. When we got home I finished boxing up the dahlias. They are in five white boxes. The labels had been tied on with string right round the tubers while they were drying. I didn't take those strings off but I tied another string to fix the label upright against the stem so that they are more visible. Put two of the boxes in what I call my utility room , one on a propagator and one on a warming mat. The other three boxes are still in the greenhouse and I will put them on a propagator and warming benches tomorrow. When I refer to my utility room , it is a room next to the kitchen, which used to be used as a kitchen.

Just had a bit of time when I got home from Blackleach this afternoon. I fixed up a propagator on a shelf in my larger greenhouse and put one of the boxes of dahlia tubers on it. Put the other two boxes on the warming benches in the other greenhouse.

Haven't had any gardening time today. I had to take Rosemary to hospital again today and we have to go again on Monday. While we were out , our electrician fixed a new light fitting in my larger greenhouse.

I have been in the greenhouse this morning and again this afternoon after we had been shopping .We had to go shopping today because we couldn't go yesterday. I took the first 96 chrysanth cuttings. They are all disbud varieties. I still have the spray varieties to do but the disbuds always need doing first.

Went on the allotment this afternoon and finished weeding the dahlia bed and the path behind it. Brought home the remaining frame so all three are at home now.

I told you last week that I had to take Rosemary to hospital again today. It was just a consultation and it didn't take as long as usual and we weren't kept waiting. . We left home at 1.40 and we were back home at 2.00. Before we went I went in the greenhouse and took 56 cuttings of spray chrysanths. This afternoon I went to the allotment and forked over and weeded the onion bed but there were not many weeds.

Had to take my car to the garage this morning so I couldn't go anywhere. So I have been in my garden and greenhouse all day. You know that I have been sorting all me canes but there are still a lot on the allotment . I brought some home yesterday and I have sorted them this morning. One of the frames that I brought from the allotment needed repairing so I did that. I then forked over the chrysanth and dahlia beds.

We had to go shopping this morning because we couldn't go yesterday. I went on the allotment this afternoon and started digging the trenches for my runner beans and sweet peas. I dig two parallel trenches about 4 feet apart, a spade wide and a spade deep. I fork over the base then put in a thick layer of green material (spent annuals, dahlia tops, veg waste etc.} before filling up with soil. The soil from the second trench is used to fill the first one then the soil from the first one goes into the second one. I only had time to dig the first trench and put in the green material so I will do the other trench next time I go.

After the wellbeing walk at Blackleach country park on Thursdays, we go in a large room at the back of the visitor centre for a drink and a chat and this is where the art club meet in the afternoon .However, there is new heating system being put in and the workmen were working in that room. So we couldn't go in today and the art club couldn't meet. I normally go home for my lunch about 12.00 then go back at 1.00 for the art club but didn't have to go back today. We think it will be back to normal next week. So, this afternoon I took Rosemary a walk. We had some errands to do after so I haven't had time to do any gardening jobs today. I have to take her to hospital again tomorrow. By the way, she has finally got a date for her hip replacement operation, February 15th.

Took Rosemary to hospital again this morning. We were home about 2.00 so I went on the allotment and carried on with the trenches that I was doing on Wednesday and almost finished them. Didn't quite get time to finish filling in the second trench. The ground will need levelling after. 90 gladioli came that I had ordered from Parkers. This evening I have laid the corms in trays and put them on top of the cupboards in the kitchen. Forgot to mention that I ordered 6 coleus plants from Dibleys by phone

We had to go shopping this morning because we couldn't go yesterday. This afternoon I went to Blackleach to do my bird count .Rosemary stayed at home doing the count for the R.S.P.B.garden bird survey. I went on the allotment after .I finished the trenches and levelled the soil. I then started forking over and weeding what was the root crop bed and will be the potato bed this year. I have a half load of manure coming on Friday afternoon and I would like to get the beds weeded then the manure can go straight on. There aren't many weeds but this one was the worst which is why I am doing it first.

It has been dry today so I went on the allotment this afternoon carrying on with forking over and weeding the beds. I finished the bed I was doing yesterday and did one more which is the brassica bed for this year. I have one more bed to do.

Went on the allotment this morning and forked over and weeded the last bed. This afternoon, we had some errands to do(not the usual shopping which we will be doing tomorrow). After, I went to the allotment again and did the pH tests on all the beds to see if any need lime. The onion bed was a bit low (5.7) and the chrysanth bed (5.9) so I will add a bit of lime. All other beds were O.K.

This afternoon, I did the pH tests on my beds at home ,as I did on the allotment yesterday and they were all O.K. You can tell that I worked 69 years in laboratories, can't you?. I went in the greenhouse after and sowed my first flower seeds,2 varieties of bedding lobelia, 2 of trailing lobelia, petunias, salvias, achillea "summer berries", delphinium "dwarf pacific" and lobelia "Queen Victoria". Forgot to mention yesterday that the first dahlia tuber is growing.

Not much gardening time today. I had to take Rosemary to an audiologist this morning and this afternoon to hospital for her pre op. Before we went this morning I just had time to sow my exhibition onions. When sowing seeds I always sieve the compost and when we came home this afternoon I sieved a bucketful ready for my next sowings. When I had finished washing up this evening, I washed a lot of margerine tubs at the kitchen sink. I use a lot of these for cuttings and small amounts of seeds.
