Had an hour or so on the allotment this morning and started planting the potatoes. You can see that I am a bit behind with my jobs because I normally plant them in April. Raked some fish, blood and bone into the bed first.Only had time to plant one row and dig the trench for the next row.Put lawn mowings in the bottom of the trenches because it helps to prevent scab. This afternoon I mixed another 15 gallons of compost for carrots from last years potato compost.Potted a few more dahlias and rubbed some more labels.

Mostly dry today.Went on the allotment this morning. There are still a lot of weeds. On beds that I weeded only a month ago they are coming up again. The main problem weed is marestail which is all over the allotments.I sprayed mine on most of the beds with lawn weedkiller, double strength. I know this works because I have used it before. After,I planted another row of potatoes.I went to school this afternoon. I grow parsnips and long carrots in tubes made from builders damp proof material. When not in use they are rolled up together and kept behind my shed. This evening I got them out and made up the tubes. I just clip them in the right shape at the top amd bottom.

Not much gardening time today because I went to the hut this morning and this afternoon I did the survey of birds and wild flowers at Blackleach with Janet. When I got home and again this evening for a bit I filled the tubes that I had made for carrots with compost.I kept poking it down with a cane to see that there were no air pockets.

This morning I started weeding the border between the back lawn and next doors fence.Took Rosemary a walk round Blackleach this afternoon.A wet day is forecast tomorrow so when we got home ,rather than carry on with the weeding ,I decided that I had better mow the lawns.I have been out this evening and carried on with the weeding till bad light stopped play at 9.30 but didn't quite finish it.

Showery today so not as bad as yesterday.Went in the greenhouse this morning and potted some more dahlias. Went to Blackleach at 1.00 for the art club but I couldn't go to school after ,as I normally do,because I had a hospital appointment at 3.30. Martyn came to Blackleach at 3.00 to take me, and Rosemary came too. Been in the greenhouse this evening and potted 6 tomato plants into their final pots.I still have about another 6 to do. They should have been done weeks ago because they are getting too tall .

Mostly dry today. This morning I potted another five tomato plants into the final pots including one that somebody gave me at the hut last Saturday called Mountain Magic.I have never grown this before.I also potted the sweet corn plants from drinking cups into 4 inch pots.I then emptied the frames except two that had chrysanths in and this evening I have filled them again with more veg plants and bedding plants.Heather has arrived this evening for the weekend.

I decided today to get on with planting my chrysanths. The beds needed weeding first but there weren't many weeds.I then raked some fish, blood and bone in.The canes are attached to horizontal wires using V clips. When not in use the wires are tied along the fence. So I had to untie them anf fix them up. They are attached to T posts. Then I put all the canes in 15 inches apart. There are two beds and each one has four rows of canes. All this took me till mid afternoon.I then started planting and did about half of them.I tie them to the canes as I go along.Howeever, I realised that I had not as many plants as I thought I had and I haven't enough to fill both beds.So I have fixed up some wires and canes that are not needed.I will have to decide what to plant in the spare space.

This afternoon I finished planting the chrysanths. As soon as I had finished them it thundred and we had a storm.I told you yesterday that I hadn't enough plants for the whole bed. There were only 50 which is disappointing because I took 144 cuttings.I have decided to put gladioli on the rest of the bed.I have 90 corms and there is room for 30 on here. The rest will be grown on the allotment. This evening I have been removing the loose skin from the corms.

Today was showery but between showers I managed to plant the gladioli on the vacant part of the chrysanth bed. There are 30 altogether, 5 each of 6 varieties. When it was raining I went in the greenhouse and potted some more rooted cuttings of basket plants, some into custard pots and some into cell trays. Been to the A.G.M.at the allotments this afternoon .This evening I have cut back the ivy behind the rockery.
