This morning I had to go to a First Aid refresher course for health walk leaders at Salford Quays. After going through the proceedure to go through if someone has a cardiac arrest or heart attack the teacher was saying that people who didn't have much excercise were more at risk so I said that this afternoon I will be shovelling manure .She thought this was an excellent thing to do! "Have you got an allotment ?" she said This afternoon I finished weeding the bed I was doing yesterday and put 8 barrows of manure on and started forking it in but didn't get time to do it all.

Before I went to the hut this morning I took 24 dahlia cuttings. This afternoon I have been carrying on with forking in the manure on the allotment.

This afternoon I loosened the soil in the front rose bed with the claw because it was compacted with all the rain we have had. Even though I have a lot of digging to do I still have work to do in the greenhouse so I took 68 chrysanth cuttings. Probably go to the allotment tomorrow.

Went on the allotment this morning and carried on with the manuring. Rosemary needed the car this afternoon so I stayed at home. My allotment is within walking distance but I have digging at home as well. Took another 20 chrysanth cuttings then started forking manure into the chrysanth beds and almost finished them.

A nice sunny day today. Went on the allotment and finished manuring the dahlia bed. Then did the bed where I grow runner beans and sweet peas. I had put manure in the trenches but today I put some on the top and forked it in. Just got two veg beds to do on the allotment now which I should finish by weekend. Couldn't go this afternoon so I finished digging manure into the chrysanth beds at home . Also turned the soil over on the borders round the back lawn. There is some manure on here too , a row at the back of each border that I plant with dahlias and spray chrysanths.

Went on the allotment this morning for an hour (I had to go somewhere else first) and again this afternoon before it was time to go to school and I forked the manure into the potato bed. There is just the onion bed to do now. This is the bed that some of it is tipped on when it is delivered so there is too much on. I will have to put some of it on the compost before I can dig the bed.

Don't feel well today.I have a bad cough and cold. I came home from Blackleach early on Friday because I was shivvering and I didn't feel like going to the hut this morning ,standing about in the cold.I just went up to pay in some money that somebody gave me and get some onion sets for someone who I had promised but came straight home. It was a nice day to go and finish my digging on the allotment but I didn't feel like it. I had a bit of time in the greenhouse this afternoon and took 55 dahlia cuttings. Couldn't leave these any longer because some of the shoots were 6 inches long.I have taken 177 dahlia cuttings now. I also started potting the rooted chrysanth cuttings.

I still didn,t feel like going on the allotment today . I even missed church which I never do normally unless I am away. I am O.K.working in the greenhouse where I have been most of the day.I just shut the door to keep warm.I have finished potting the January rooted chrysanths. There are 155 done altogether. I have potted tha shallots on from three and a half inch pots into 5 inch.I had got 10 bulbs from Dobies and it's a good job I did because they are growing much better than my own that I kept from last year. With a lot of my own the leaves were yellowing which shows there is some rot in the bulbs. I have never had trouble keeping them before. I also potted up some more onions from a seed tray into yoghurt pots.

You would not go to our church with a cold Derek. It is so cold in the church you would come home with one. I was warming my hands in my pockets and some people wear gloves.
