We had a few words last night
Drum roll please.......... Dad is coming round in a bit, time to do my first cutting.
Now I might be excited about it but I hate to think what it will be saying when we get the blade out.

With shaking hands I took my first cuttings. Dad came with a bucket of sharp sand. Dad told me to put in the same amount of compost and mix it up. We used 'Roota' which I remember he used to use when I was little but it is not the same as it was because it is now thinner more watery. It was more gloopy then, bit like wallpaper paste. (Dad is not convinced that it will be as good).
I think he understands that this is important to me. I thought that he was going to end up taking the cuttings with him but no. They are still here, sitting on the propagator and I have to mist them. I am now the proud owner or a scalpel blade, a bottle of Roota and my sharp sand and compost cuttings mix bucket. I don't know if I am going to be lucky but I can have a go. I think Dad thinks that I'll want to do the next ones on my own, no I don't think so but I've got ages yet before that becomes a possibility. A good thing I think.
I think Dad might have been a bit surprised that I had not even unpacked my 7 mini tray propagator but I was very upset after the dahlia tubers started showing signs of going mouldy (as had my peppers the previous day so their lid was removed straight away. It was where the wooden sticks touched against the compost, rather than the seeds themselves but obviously it had stayed too wet with the lid on any longer then they would have rotted. I know that I am very lucky to have more seeds if I need to start again, I put it down to experience scraped off the mould but I was very upset about it.)
Moving on...

My 3 Clearview dahlias and my cuttings are in my 2 by 2 prop which I am going to keep on. Rather than waste the electricity I've been a bit cheeky and put my other 2 chicken legs in their trays on it with my begonia thingies resting on the top. I am not going to keep that prop. on all night.
I think that the others need to be on all the time because they are the intensive care unit, 7 seater (with its 4 beds) is more of a day stay hospital bed or an afternoon at a health spar?

Yesterday night it was -4 degrees I've moved my trailing basket / dwarf sweet peas into the greenhouse today. It was actually sunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've left them there but rested a couple of layers of fleece as a bed time duvet. I've also laid 1 single sheet on my baby pansy, violas and lobelia plants because they have really suffered. Many, many casualties but we will see what happens, maybe it will help, hope so could not get much worse.
We went out shopping today and when we got back my cuttings had drooped a bit, gave them a bit of a mist of water and told myself they are going to slump a bit after all they have just been severed from their tuber. Dad said that it will probably take a couple of weeks, fingers crossed.
It feels like quite a few tiny steps. Fingers crossed for some more tomorrow.

Couldn't wait to get downstairs and check on my dahlias. Joined by girls, there I were happily squirting water and Pirate Yellow Wellies says "It is snowing" >:(Please tell me that it is not snowing. grrr
Can't cross for long because Pirate Yellow Wellies is trying to teach me 'monkey' language. She also is fluent in giraffe, dog and tree languages.
I kid you not. "oo aa" means hello if they say "oo aa oo aa OO AA" is means 'give me something to eat now!'
"pffff pffff" means 'I am freezing today in tree.'
I guess there is a lot of more of that again.
Just been told she can speak plant. If they don't grow it means they are too cold.
I think we must all be good at translating that one.

My poor Happy Halloween babies are not looking very happy.
This one is the weakest one but it also was the smallest and Dad would have left it a day or two longer but he was showing me what to do. So he got 'took' early. If that makes sense.
The whole group but not the clearest view as there are some a lot (in my opinion) better than others.
Dad and Mum are going to come with an Easter treat for the girls and Dad will probably take the cuttings with him.
I guess it has got to be done to give them the best chance of survival but I will see what Dad says he is the expert not me.
Got a progress report with a bit less sparkle later but good news I promise.
