We had advance notice that we were going to have a power cut sometime between 8.30 - 5pm today. So this morning I decided to switch off my propagator. I can't keep it going forever. So I pulled each of the remaining cuttings and I've got more rooted cuttings!
So there I am mad woman in a bathrobe, potting up in the greenhouse at the bottom of my garden at 5.50am, trying to hurry up because I have a bus to catch to go to work.
2 more Happy Halloweens and 2 more Downham Royal. The other one bless it is the runt of the litter cutting wise. I am 60% sure that it is another Downham Royal but it could possibly be a Weston Spanish Dancer.
So as far as I am concerned I am going to stick with 2 Happy Halloween and 3 Downham Royal (Makes life to complicated otherwise).
Exciting stuff.
So plant wise (rather than tuber plant wise) I have 3 Happy Halloween, 3 Downham Royals that are taken from my cuttings. I also have a poor snail attacked Clearview Arlene, Weston Pirate, Willow's Violet, Weston Miss, Weston Flamingo, Gurta Twilight, Mary's Jomanda and Jomanda. Tuber plant wise I have: 6 tubers of Downham Royal, 6 of Happy Halloween, Clearview Arlene, Weston Spanish Dancer, Colerado Classic, Franz Kafka.
So the challenge now is where to put them all.

We made our first 'bunch' of sweet peas and gave it to my Mum. Pirate Yellow Wellies gave Nanny her purple Thompson and Morgan sweet pea. My Mum and Dad smelt it and said that it smelt lovely. Then she was given 2 Zillah Harrod and Dad said that it smelt really nice but they thought that the purple one had the loveliest scent. Then I smiled and gave her 2 White Frills. Wow! Beautiful.
Mum and Dad took home the hexagon pot that I have planted a mixture of things, Golden Anniverary fuchsia, violas, Solway Splendour a dwarf sweet pea variety. I planted some freesias in the pot. Mum told Dad that she wants him to move something out of the way so that she can have it pride of place next to their front door.
My Mum was very carefully holding her sweet pea bunch as she went out to the car.

Honest update here. Floundering about a bit at the moment. It is lovely and hot here, just haven't a clue what I am doing or where to start.
Dahlias patch to organise, sweet peas, tomatoes and chillies. Well haven't a clue what to do about the chillies and got to move the path slabs that I moved so that it could be Rotavatored.
I think that I most stressed about the dahlias mainly because I really don't know what I am doing. Dad has explained stuff but I feel like I am asking the same questions too many times. I just don't want to do it wrong. I am happy to live and learn but I don't want to muck everything up.
Mental note to self, tiny steps but don't have a clue which direction.

Found another Slow Worm, under a slab that I was moving so that Dad could Rotavator. I waited until it had slid away and didn't move any more. So my 1st job was to lift up all the path slabs and move them off of the dahlia patch.
Some were a lot harder than others and I needed to use a spade to lever them up. I had just 3 more to go when Dad arrived, he started to unload the truck which was when I lifted up the one with the slow worm in it. I was hoping that he would come down before it slid away but the slow worm slid away before he came up with his new toy. It was time to stop.
The spade marks where the slab was which had the slow worm under it. It slid off towards the green.

The beastie arrives, assembled and petrol tank filled and it is ready to attack that mountain of soil with holes in it. While I am dashing round trying to pull up the canes.
One man and his new toy.
I so wanted a go, I remember standing infront of my Dad gripping the handle bars with him holding on top when I was little I loved it.
I wanted to ask but I didn't, he was having too much fun. When he finished HH came home for lunch and Dad said "Tell him he can have a go if he wants." sniff, sniff humpf, I should have asked.
Next time

Only had one slight accident, the Rotavator blade clipped the step which chipped and hit the bottom corner window of the greenhouse.

I think that the Beastie one the battle, what a difference.
I know that it isn't big compared to everyone here but I love it. I am sure that it will look even better when I get the dahlias planted.
I wanted to leave the green part as that is where the slow worm went. Doesn't look pretty but there is a reason behind the madness.

Problem is I've got to put a path back...
Started putting the slabs back but...
I think that this path is my personal albatross round my neck.
Landscape gardener I'm not.
Felt a bit demoralised so I showed HH.

Oh
but he is right. He also did lots of research including this: Paving Expert.
So tomorrow I've got to start battling with all that ballast again, try and get it a bit flatter and a lot less bumpy. Mission impossible?

It is starting to look really good. Gardening this rotovated area will be a breeze from now on. Sorry about the chipped pane. I don't think a woman would have that sort of an accident. This comment is very sexist, but I believe it.
