Miniature mullings... 1 vase, 3 blooms, Miniature flowered. + more Westons! Dad is growing either Corsair or Buccaneer, don't know if they will be as lovely as Pirate beautiful colour 1 of my favourite 3 dahlias. Maybe they will be better at keeping to size? Going to grow them v. differently next year. Will get Stardust. Lovely colours and won this class and others at the main show. Dad's going to grow it to.
Balls! I am going to carry on with Jomanda, after all I have won with it. Thinking about maybe getting a different plant of Mary's Jomanda because quite a few didn't have good centres, had green. Not sure, Quite like to grow the bright pink one that Dad had and red Balloon fantastic colour.
Downham Royal of course, just going to grow it differently. Less blooms in a bid for bigger blooms. Well that's my thinking.... for now.

Last set of mullings (for now...)These are this year's Intermediate Classes:
1 vase, 3 blooms, Medium flowered. Easy group! Eastwood Moonlight, Peach Delight but not Ruskin Bride. Anything else that Dad recommends / suggests and if a mini miracle occurs I'd like to grow Candy Jayne.
If a bigger miracle happened, I would love to grow Eastwood Star and also if I can find it Salmon Symbol.

Do you reckon at some point in the distant or perhaps not too distant future moonlight will look back on all this and wonder what happened to turn her into a top flight exhibitor? I can still remember the moment that started me off on the exhibition road. can you?

Do you reckon at some point in the distant or perhaps not too distant future moonlight will look back on all this and wonder what happened to turn her into a top flight exhibitor? I can still remember the moment that started me off on the exhibition road. can you? Ah but who is the ring leader?re. exhibiting, can't see that happening, highly unlikely to ever have covers, need to keep a lawn. I certainly won't be able to grow the numbers of plants that people that post in the dahlia forum are able to. Must confess I'm as proud as punch at winning at County show. Eclipsed my drive to win the Novice cup at Town show. I still really want to win that single bloom dahlia class, if I can and if I have anything that can go in any of the other Novice classes, then I will but I am intending to have a go at some of the Dahlia classes. Hypothetically if I were to win any of the non-Novice classes then that would mean no more Novice classes next year but if I don't then I will still have the freedom to enter the Novice classes nest year.
So for me it is a win - win situation. I think that I have calmed down about the whole Novice cup anyway. So HH will have slightly less boring conversations (Only slightly because he'll probably have more dahlia ones, especially as I've saved some seeds...) and my threads will be a little less manic. I have more of an idea of what I want to grow next year. For example I still want to grow some pink daffodil varieties (whether or not I am still eligible for Novice classes) but I hope to be a tad less obsessed about them. Plant them, stop fussing and leave them up to Mother Nature.
My main gardening priority needs to be to reclaim more of it from nature and areas of neglect. We have next doors ivy growing over our upstairs window, which doesn't open, so we can't peel it off from the top. We are just going to have to zap it with some super strength weedkiller. I need to reclaim the front garden. Forgetting about the massive over hanging tree problem in the back garden, need to start with the conifers along the front. If I get any I might grow seedlings there.... maybe I will, maybe not (Depends of what direction the wind is blowing) I had thought about growing my ball dahlias out the front but considering the size of them, that would be plain daft.
However, my biggest priority needs to be to spend more time working on the house. We would love to decorate it but I need to de-clutter big time because I am a hoarder and stuff needs to go. We have a storage room that needs emptying but we can't do that until I have got rid of stuff. It is an ongoing bill that we can do without.
So more mulling over... you can tell that I have been doing a lot of thinking. That's why I like doing my diary, makes me think, just like I did from page 1. Can't believe it's on page 80+. Obviously I talk too much.

I went to a local show in Devon and when I saw the veg on display I happened to remark that I grew better than that. One of the exhibitors then told me to more or less put my money where my mouth was and enter next year so I said ok and he gave me a few sets of Catriona potato to grow so you can tell how long ago that was as Catriona was a TOP variety then. I didn't manage that particular local show as we moved to Surrey soon after but I started right away with anything I could manage to grow in my garden including Sweetpeas. I hadn't a clue how to exhibit but just like you moonlight I started to learn and was soon up and running. 1973 when it all started for me.
