Dad has left pots for me to put the dahlia seeds I've collected in. Just labelled them. Been very logical by labelling before putting the seeds in and then muddling up which pot is which. I have done that sort of thing when sowing seeds. Then when the seeds germinate I have to work out the variety. Not good if it is tomatoes where they all look much the same. Your dahlias would come into this category Moonlight.

Losing the Robinia created a chance for pleasant changes to your garden Moonlight. Try to stop mourning the tree. I did this with my apple tree which shaded my garden and am only just getting over it after two years. I should have faced up to the fact that it was dying before it was sawn down. Life has improved now that the wasps which ate the apples have gone. I remember you showing me where the apple tree had been when we visited you Cherry

We also lost a lovely tree recently. Our Laburnum succumbed to disease and/or old age. Pruned a lot of the dead wood away and have planted a clematis montana to hopefully climb over what remains. I hope so. Our half rotted stump is still in the back garden, don't know what we will end up doing with it. I've drawn up a rough layout plan for next year's dahlias - both front and back garden.

This will sound really odd. I like the apple tree stump and I can use it for a plant stand or bird bath. Are you able to use yours Moonlight?

My husband is very good at removing stumps if you can't find a use for it - he cuts them back to about 2' then uses a pickaxe to loosen the roots. They normally come out easily.

I don't know if it is use able rather got my eye on using the space to grow more dahlias. The girls are going to grow a (real ) dahlia each. So I was thinking of growing them a bit away from the others because they are different to the others. If ever I get organised I will put a picture of my plan for next year but I've got to find my camera first.

Ho! Ho! Ho! International Dahlia Christmas Shopping for my Dad has begun and have a long list: Dahlias by Les and Viv Connell. Les has originated more than 300 varieties including Magic Moment, April Dawn and Amy K., and anything that begins with 'Tahoma' or 'Summit.' Our flowers have won awards at fairs at the local and national level.
Haven't seen an updated Clearview website yet but I do like one of it's Introductions.Clearview AudreyIf my Dad doesn't order that one then I will (and I had done so well by not being tempted by any from the Les and Viv website.)

There are so many more important problems but I feel like a crab with a stiff shoulder that can't move it's claw to reach a trapped barnacle on his shell.
I think I ought to go climb back under the grumpy rock that I just crawled out of.
