All the dahlia seedlings are starting to grow away now. Out of the 600+ there is only 26 with dark leaves.

I'm having my first go from seeds. I have a few seedlings from Mersey Charm and a few from Cafe au Lait, with pollen parents at the discretion of the bees. Likely they will be compost Dahlias, but you never know. As I don't know many of your varieties, I guess that you don't know many of ours. Mersey Charm is a miniature cactus. Cafe au Lait is a large decorative - not really with the depth to show, but my favourite anyway.

You just do not know what the blooms will be like from seeds when pollination is left to the insects. That is the fun of it though, will there be a beautiful show bloom, or a full compost bin. ;D

My Mum always says that gardening is what your gambling instinct is meant for - never truer than when creating new hybrids!
