I have been pruning a couple of shrubs and taken huge branches off my Cytisus battandieri. It must like the soil here better than White House Farm and is more multi-branched and spreading. Actually for me the soil is not as good.

Planted up two large pots with purple dwarf French beans & two with mangetout. Also potted up about 4 or 5 spare tomato plants in pots in the greenhouse & watered everything.

thanks balc2 I still have other bits to rejuvinate but they will have to wait until after 30th Started on the first half of the garden, deadheading cut the grass and edged, exposed the stepping stones which were gradually disappearing under the grass, weeded out the first gravel path and did a lot of watering

Morning everyone 👋
Yesterday was a nice warm day and so I spent an hour or so on the balcony. I repotted the mini-tomatoes and also the 6 Dragon Wings Begonias. They have all made noticeable progress lately.
I gave the hanging baskets a good soaking as well. One or two didn't get a good watering when I fed them on Wednesday. I pulled the compost from the centre of the baskets towards the edges before they become too thick I would do them more damage than good.

Some of my stepping stones are doing a disappearing act under the grass as well grindle, must cut around them! 😊 Pruned the grapevine, weeded the veg bed & watered everything in the greenhouse, baskets & pots.

Again, today, I spent about an hour on the balcony. This time moving pots of plants around so I could lay out a bag of compost on the balcony floor which I intended to put the 3 self-sown tomato plants in.Once I got things organized a bit I put the bag of compost in the same place I've been growing tomatoes for the last 20+ years. I wasn't going to plant any this year but a lady on another gardening forum send me a few seeds each of about half a dozen mini-tomato plants. So I sowed them, much later than I normally would, they grew but were quite slow. Then, 2 weeks ago, I noticed they had put on a spurt in growth! So today I put them in the bag of compost. I cut 3 holes in the bag, (lying flat on the balcony floor), put the plants in them & tied each little plant to the string which I will be winding them around during the summer. I have a wire across the balcony ceiling & I tie the strings to that.
Two of them are definitely indeterminate varieties but one may possibly be one of the mini-tomatoes that doesn't know it supposed to be a small plant! The confusion is because all the seedlings were together on top of the shelving unit on the balcony. The only way to tell them apart is by their height! The self-sowns should be higher than the minis, at least that's the theory! Once I'd planted them all in the bag I realized the middle one was smaller that the other two & it also has thicker, more curly leaves. Time will tell what it is! I put a photo up tomorrow.

I really enjoy experimental gardening balc2, which is why I prefer Beechgrove to Gardeners’ World. However, I haven’t had to lie flat to plant out tomatoes!

Replaced the turf where Jemma has killed the grass. Not sure if it will work, but one has to try.

Weeding!!! We are surrounded by fields and at this time of year it's a never-ending job.

I had to laugh at that comment - after reading through my post again!
It was the bag of compost that was lying flat on the balcony floor - not me!

Sorry, I've just realized the last 3 photos are really too close up!
I'm not sure if the middle plant is an indeterminate or mini-tomato plant! The indeterminates come from seeds I didn't plant! I decided not to grow any more tomatoes from this year. But then a lady from another gardening forum I used to post on asked me If I could send her some seeds of another tomato that was self sown last year (the first time I've ever had self-sown tomatoes on the balcony! Though it wasn't unusual on the allotment where seeds overwintered in the soil & grew again the following year!), I'd never saved my own seeds from tomatoes before as I bought it fresh every year. So I sent her some seeds & she sent me half a dozen mini-tomato varieties! As I had them I decided to sow them. Not all the seeds germinated but enough did.
I decided to put the self-sown tomatoes in a single growbag but as I couldn't find any in town I used the bag of compost I had bought to repot them with instead! I though I had 3 of these tomatoes but now I'm not sure if one might have been one of the mini-tomatoes that had grown a bit taller than the rest leading to the confusion! Time will tell what they are!

A bit too warm today however I did pull out a few weeds that were found lurking in one of our shingle pathways. I also raked the whole path over as it tends to become a bit uneven in the well throd areas.
